Celtic Music That I Love

Updated on February 1, 2015
Source

I Love Celtic Music

When I first heard Celtic music, I reveled in its melodies and lyrics & quote; Now this is the way music is supposed to sound & quote; was the thought going through my head.

I was in the Royal Navy and serving in Belfast, Northern Ireland which initially gave me some exposure to this wonderful music. Since I discovered Celtic music, it has held my interest ever since those early days of sailing the seven seas!

Perhaps I was tuning into some of my ancestral memories. After all, I am from Scotland

Have a listen to some of the most beautiful Celtic Music around today and please feel free to share any Celtic Music that you think we would enjoy!

My Celtic Woman Experience

My Experience

Emerald: Musical Gems Deluxe CD/DVD
Emerald: Musical Gems Deluxe CD/DVD

Celtic Woman Wed 02 Apr, 2014 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Costa Mesa, California.

Being very familiar with their music I had a good idea of what to expect and was certainly not disappointed, they are a bunch of extremely talented ladies and provided us with a spectacular performance, the music was energizing, the lighting was spectacular, and their choreography was ethereal as was their costumes and appearance.

One song which I must admit I was not that familiar with was something I believe was called “Da Da-DEE-Ana…”, they started off a little slow flowing down separate aisles on either side of the stage, but then they got into it by presented the song as an argument between two young women, descending down the aisles both got stuck into each other, the song got louder, music got faster and it was enjoyed by all, very nice, an awesome concert.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that the back-up singers and all other musicians provided us with a stellar performance.

Who's my favorite, well without a doubt it has to be Máiréad Nesbitt, apart from being beautiful she is without a doubt an outstanding musician.

My aim for next concert attendance is to get a meet and greet with the girls ;)

The Emerald Tour

5 stars for Celtic Woman Emerald Tour

Some of My Favorite Celtic Albums

Songs From The Heart
Songs From The Heart

This is the fith studio album and was released on 29 Jan 2010, and the album has some of the most ethereal music you can listen too. My favorite just has to be "Amazing Grace" followed closely by "Fields of Gold", and "O, America", certainly lots of heartwarming songs that is sure to stir fans of all ages and cultures!

The vocalists of Songs from the Heart were Lisa Kelly, Chloë Agnew, Alex Sharp, Lynn Hilarly , and the beautiful fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt. A German deluxe edition was released in January 2011, which included the newest member Lisa Lambe.

These songs were originally filmed for a TV special and DVD release at County Wicklow, in Summer 2009.

Believe

Believe
Believe

This is a fairly new album to my collection and certainly one not to be sniffed at. It is the the seventh studio album from Celtic Woman and was released on May 25, 2011.

It didn't take me long to add to my growing collection after discovering three songs of which I have become quiet fond off, those being "Bridge over Trouble Water", "You'll Never Walk Alone", and "Sailing". I love sitting back, lights dimmed low, and just taking in all this tranquility. A must have for your Celtic collection.

Celtic Circle 2
Celtic Circle 2

This is a wonderful compilation of thirty songs (2 CD's) from various artists that will set the stage and give you an insight into the romantic times and tales of King Arthur era! There are songs that speak from the heart and others that speak of the battle for justice, no matter which track you choose, you will endure much pleasurable listening! A great selection of music, and this is one CD that should be included in any Celtic collection!

A New Journey
A New Journey

A simply exquisite compilation of Celtic Songs. "The Voice" is very pleasant to listen too, but, one of my all time favorites, and of which I had the pleasure of hearing live by many a great voices in Norther Ireland, is the song "Carrickfergus", sit back, have a listen and you will surely enjoy, I guarantee!

Irish Set Dancing

This is not the showy dancing of River Dance. That is Irish Step Dancing.

At first glance, Irish set dancing reminds people of square dancing. Many of the dances start with a square of four couples (like The Kerry Set). With Irish set dancing, there is no caller, so the dancers need to memorize the patterns for the dances. Besides the pattern of the dance, there's a special step that you learn.

Performed live under a dramatic evening summer sky, this music will encourage and uplift you. I really love this compilation and even listen to the calming effect while at work

I was fortunate enough to see Celtic Woman here in Tallahassee a few years ago. It was an awesome concert. I was fascinated by the two drummers, in particular, one on each side of the stage in a cage filled with percussion instruments. Everyone was wonderful. I highly recommend attending one of their concerts if you haven't been.

I love Celtic music! I find it so peaceful and beautiful. Have you heard of the Afro Celt Sound System? That is fusion Celtic music, blending a rich African beat with haunting Celtic melodies over the top. Maire Brennan sings in some of the songs. I have that album somewhere!

I fell in love with Celtic music after listening to the Corrs. And looking for good lenses for my quest I stumbled upon this. Seems I have a lot more to know. BTW why do have different genres for Irish and Celtic music at Squidoo. Are they very different?

There really is nothing that compares to the haunting cry of a violin and there is nothing like a little Irish tune to make me want to dance a little jig :)
