Cloudy With The Chance of Meatballs 2 Movie Review

Updated on October 6, 2014

Chance of Meatballs?

Every parent has at one time or another taken their kids to a so-called "family friendly" movie and regretted every minute of it. With flashy cartoons and seemingly innocent commercials, we let our guards down and walk right into the theatre. The same is even more true when its a sequel being that the first movie was fun, entertaining and well within the PG rating and the second is none of these. Building off of potty humor and sexual innuendoes, sequels try to outdo their previous film and usually suffer for it.

So, you can understand how apprehensive I was about going to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs . BUT have no fear because Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a great movie that the whole family will enjoy.

Starting with a funny noodle armed scientist and ending with cute little food-hybrids, everyone will have a good laugh. You will also get to go on an adventure with some of your favorite characters through syrup swamp, candy rock mountain, and plenty more exciting places that will make you want to see more.

To give you the best idea of what to expect in this excellent movie, I will tell you what the movie is about but I will not tell you about the whole movie, just enough so you get it. Then I have a little section for parents if they are interested in some little spoiler details and last I will tell you what I thought of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Near the end I will also give you a little review on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 if you are interested in what that is about. Now read on so you can see if you want to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.

What is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 About?

Without a Spoiler

After the mess that Flint’s food machine (the FLDSMDFR) made, Live Corp., led by Flints all time favorite scientists since he was a boy, Chester V, comes in to clean the food mess up. Chester V is the CEO of Live Corp. and was also a great scientist.

Chester told everyone that they must leave Swallow Falls so he and his "minions" could clean up the mess; he also told Flint that he had a job for him in San Fran Jose. The job was to work as a scientist at Live Corp. While the clean up was going on. Flint’s friends also got jobs and they all stayed together in San Fran Jose.

While Flint and his friends had been working in their new jobs and loving them, Chester V told Flint that the clean up crew was not going well. He also told Flint that there were food-animal hybrids living on the island and he needed Flint to go back to Swallow Falls and retrieve his FLDSMDFR. Flint said he would, however he did not go alone, as he was told. He rounded up his friends Sam, Manny, Brent, his father, Earl, and Steve and they all went back to Swallow Falls.

What Parents Should Know About This Movie

Spoiler Alert!!

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 is a sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1. The movie is somewhat based off of Judi Barrett's classic children's book. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 will have some of the same level of insulting language from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 throughout the movie (like: "idiot", "loser" etc.). There is also at one point in the movie someone falling to his death but no blood or anything like that is shown. Also there is a little romance when two characters hold hands and give one brief kiss.

This movie has characters that personify selfishness, discrimination, and suffer hardship. However it also displays great life lesson about perseverance, and the rewards to hard work and determination. I would recommend this movie for 5 and above years old, depending on how your kid reacts to some things. Younger kids may get scared when a scary (scary at first but soon they are nice and are friends) cheeseburger spider or a giant taco dinosaur comes out. Other than that this movie is great for all the little children.

Have You Seen Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 1 Yet?

If you have not seen Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 now might be the time. This family friendly movie will surly make the whole family laugh and every one will have a fun time. Here is a brief summary of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1.

Having grown up inventing things all his life Flint's ideas never turn out quite how they were suppose to and he would either get in trouble or he would be made fun of. Finally Flint had a great idea his idea was a machine that would turn water in to food. And having grown up all his life on an island that ate sardines a hamburger sounded great.

The whole island love his invention and they put in their own food orders and the mayor of the town made it global. So everyone from every place know came to see flints invention. However the food machine was over heating and no-one knew and something was in-store for Swallow Falls.

So What Do I Think of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2?

My Grade: A+

I thought Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was a great family friendly movie. I loved the humor in this movie, there were some of the same jokes from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1, just in different forms and there were also plenty of new and exciting jokes too. There are also some very important lessons in this movie that kids and parents will love. One more thing I thought stuck out the most was someone was always there to help the other, which is a great lesson on friendship.

So I would give this movie an A+ and would totally call this a "family friendly" movie. I hope you will enjoy Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 as much as I did.
