View Costumes Of Anime Cosplayers And Let Your Imagination Soar

Cosplayers attending Kumoricon, an anime convention, captured attention wearing costumes at the adjacent park. Could you imagine YOU donning wings, a fluffy tail, curved horns, pointy ears, or a horse head for a fantastic weekend. What fanciful creature would you become? Or, do you imagine being a ninja knight, Joker's girlfriend, Slenderman, Superman, a scary monster, or a Pokémon character? Fantasies came true for costumed attendees at the 11th annual Kumoricon Convention.

They dressed as their favorite anime or manga character, the focus of this Japanese anime convention. However, many other genres of characters were portrayed so it wasn't limited to just anime characters and the like.

Inspiration for their costumes came from video games, books, movies, sci-fi, Nickelodeon cartoons, comic super-heros, and steampunk styling. Some cosplayers wore outfits or costumes of their own handiwork and imagination, taking days to months to finish. Other die-hard Kumoricon fans brought more than one costume they chose to wear over the course of the three days.

What a receptive crowd to photo taking. Cameras and smart phones were out everywhere for photos. Everyone I approached was delighted to pose for a picture. They were proud of their imaginative character identity and their costume (which many had put so much work into).

Costumed attendees responded eagerly to having their photos put online, and on Squidoo. What fun! I certainly couldn't capture all the excitement with my camera, as there were over 5,000 attendees but I gave it my best effort. The costumes were so unique, creative and imaginative. We loved the festive atmosphere, everyone having a good time. View my photos here!

Thanks all you Kumoricon creatures and beings, and happy people represented in these images for your openness in having your photos taken. I hope many of you Kumoricon fans see my article with your photos here, as promised.

This page has four carousel moving photo galleries among many other stationary interspersed photos. I know you will want to bookmark this page to send to your friends and family on your social sites. You're invited to leave a comment toward the end of this page. Enjoy the photos!

Cosplay Wigs - Let Your Imagination Go Wild

We saw many people wearing wigs. Many were bright unnatural hair colors, but depends on what character you are role-playing.

Halloween is coming. It's another event to give your wig double-duty.

What Is Cosplay?

This is my interpretation.

Cosplay is dressing up in a costume or outfit to represent and mimic a character as seen in anime or videos, comics, movies, and more. It's acting or playing in a costume.

Cos in cosplay means costume.

This group of female warriors represent the Kyoshi warriors of Avatar: The last Airbender (Nickelodeon Series). They are part of Tesla Cosplay, Salem, Or, USA. .

They are very congenial group happy to pose for repeated requests from bystanders and permitted me to publish their photo.

Where is Kumoricon?

This anime and manga convention is within two large hotels, one being the Hilton Hotel Convention Center and the other, the Red Lion At The Quay. It's present location is Vancouver, Washington, USA, just north of Portland, Oregon.

Vancouver, USA, (not to be confused with the other Vancouver in Canada), is a small city, and easy to get around in the downtown area, the vicinity of the anime festival.

The hotels are so close to one another that there's activities and events scheduled within the two, with spillover for breaks and getting outdoors in beautiful Esther Short Park. The park was bustling this weekend with cosplayers meeting and greeting each other, posing and taking photos, having group photos, and cosplaying.

Many joined an "icebreaker" game that's inclusive of anyone in costume. They formed a large circle. You may hear this shouted during the game. . ."Make us one." Someone shouts a Statement. Then, there's lots of characters who agree with the statement who stampede to a person for group hugs. Then, unison shouts from the hugging group, "WE are one, We are one." Sound familiar? If Kumoricon attendees want to explain this game better in more detail, because there's more to it than this, than please do, in the comments.

A farmer's market is well attended Saturday and Sunday on a street butting one side of the park. Surprised market and park on-lookers can then participate in viewing this strange array of creatures and beings. The public is welcome to feel some of the excitement of Kumoricon in the park at no cost.

Registration and payment for Kumoricon (see their website) starts months early by mail, or in person at the door the days of the convention. Currently, it's been held over Labor Day weekend. I've heard talk that it may be held 4 days next year instead of three. Whoopie, that's cool, more fun for anime and manga fans.

Minecraft

Your favorite Minecraft characters made a popular appearance at Kumoricon. Steve, in blue and Creeper in green attended, as did an unknown shady character with the TNT, maybe the next new character in Minecraft.

@CalobrenaOmai: Thanks for your comments. I enjoyed you sharing your perspective on the cosplayer's characters. The link for Kumoricon is listed above. Their website is full of useful information, plus gives this years (past schedule). It will change in the months before the next convention. However, as it is held annually over Labor Day, you could get ideas and start your costume early to be ready for next year's fun weekend. In 2014 there will be 4 days of awesomeness instead of 3. I am glad you liked my lens. Thanks!

This is the coolest. How awesome would it be to go out one day and run up on something like this? I would love it! I really enjoyed seeing all the costumes. Everyone looked so happy :).

I'm still confused on the relationship factor with Harley and Joker. Saw the pic with No Face and a Vocaloid music video came to mind; It had Gapacko in it. Seeing Slendy was a real treat; he needs to cut back on his travels. Deadpool looked like he was eyeing a potential target. I'm still a bit confused on the events though, the timing that is. Where can a find a calendar listing the dates of events? Awesome lens. Keep sharing the awesomeness!
