David Cassidy -- I Think I Love You

Updated on October 9, 2014

David Cassidy -- Teen Idol

Were you a fan of David Cassidy, teen idol? I was.

Yes, I'm showing my age. But that was a long time ago. A long, long time ago. I hadn't thought about David Cassidy in years until last week when I picked up a book to read.

I recently read the novel I Think I Love You by Allison Pearson, who also wrote the novel I Don't Know How She Does It. The book was fiction but was based in fact. The author lived in Wales, and like millions of other girls in the 1970s adored David Cassidy, who was made famous as Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family.

The Patridge Family

C'mon get happy!

David Cassidy was a big part of the TV show The Partridge Family. He played Keith Partridge, teen idol. This television show was the perfect escape for many pre-teen and teenage kids in the 1970s.

Photo shows from top left: Dave Madden as the band's manager Reuben Kincaid, Susan Dey as Laurie Partridge, Danny Bonaduce as Danny Partridge, Suzanne Crough as Tracy Partridge, and Jeremy Gelbwaks as Chris Partridge.

Missing from the photo are David Cassidy and Shirley Jones, who played Shirley Partridge, the mother and singer of The Partridge Family band.

David Cassidy Quote

"You know I got kicked out of high school and I used to go to Hendrix concerts. I used to go see Marvin Gaye and B.B. King and so here I am on television as an actor playing the part of this really sweet wholesome all American boy. The reality was I had a much different kind of teenage life."

I Think I Love You by Allison Pearson

If you were a teeny bopper when David Cassidy was big, you'll appreciate this book.

This novel is a fun read for anyone who watched The Partridge Family, read the teen magazines featuring David Cassidy, or swooned over any teen idol, not just David Cassidy.

Seriously, this book could have been written about just about any popular singer or movie star. Of course then the facts would have to be changed, because Pearson certainly is factual about the concert dates and other real-life references mentioned in the book.

The thing the author does so well is capture that feeling of infatuation, imagination of life with your heart throb, and the general teen-age mindset so well.

Pearson also wrote the best-seller I Don't Know How She Does It, which has been made in to a movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker.

Winter Garden - David Cassidy and I Think I Love You mentioned

I am reading Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. In this novel she mentions David Cassidy and one of the characters singing the song "I Think I Love You."

I love David Cassidy and the Partridge Family! It's my favorite 70's TV show. I'm a teen girl in 2013, in love with the Partridge Family. Just shows you how great the show was, and still is today! Great pictures.

Never really saw the appeal in David Cassidy. Mt far less sophisticated tastes leaned toward Micky Dolenz and the Monkees.

I was, and am, a David Cassidy freak - I admit it! Nice to see I'm not entirely alone in that!

Wow ... he looks so young in these photos. The behind-the-scenes stories are actually better than the series ever hoped to be. David Cassidy is very talented, and the show would have flopped without him.
