I LOVE dancing and I am a hopeless romantic! So this movie was a naturally perfect combination for me.
Call me old fashioned if you will, but I love the old musicals, like ‘The Sound of Music’ where there was dancing and singing and romance all tastefully mixed together. But since musicals aren’t really being done these days, well, this movie reminded me of one of those musicals I love watching but it was a lot more ‘steamy’; if you know what I mean?
The chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey on screen was sexy and sweet at the same time. In this movie, Patrick Swayze plays a dance instructor (called Johnny in the movie) and Jennifer Grey (Baby in the movie); the adoring teenager who is and spending the summer vacation with her parents at a resort who falls in love with Johnny.
There’s a lot of both dancing and romance in this movie. With respect to the romance, it’s kind of the usual, you know, boy meets girl, falls in love, etcetera, but it’s nicely played out. Who doesn’t love a good love story, even though we know how it’s going to progress?
If you’re a dancer or love watching dancing, then the various dance scenes and dance moves will intrigue you. There’s clumsiness at the beginning, which would make you chuckle, when you remember your stage as a beginner dancer or remember the clumsiness of others attempting to learn dance moves but there’s also the sensual and sexy perfection of dancing expertise and romance when those two (2) fall in love. I’ll say, “All together a good combination”.
Here are some other DANCE movies I liked!
This a British movie that is quite good.
Here's one of my favourite old time dance movies. Any dancing done by Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger is romantic.
