Dirty Girl Music
Aaaah yes, the once ubiquitous Sony Walkman once cranked out the likes of Pat Benatar, Sheena Easton and BowWowWow but who would have thunk it that Melissa Manchester would make the leap onto iPods because of the Dirty Girl Soundtrack or shall we just call it for what it really is "The Melissa Manchester Project".
Music supervisor Linda Cohen must have gotten a sweet licensing deal on Melissa Manchester tunes as five of them are included on the O.S.T. to Dirty Girl including the chart topper "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" and the classic belt it out with feeling weeper "Don't Cry Out Loud". Cohen recently worked on the soundtracks for The Art of Getting By, Beastly, The Back-up Plan and The Ides of March which is also being released the same week as Dirty Girl.
The bulk of the music budget for the Soundtrack to Dirty Girl seems to have gone to licensing deals to procure music from Pat Benatar, Rita Coolidge, Teena Marie, Wendy and Lisa, Tanya Tucker and The Outfield with Fyfe Dangerfield and Inara George doing a cover of the Kenny Loggins song "Whenever I Call You Friend" as the original score music was left to lesser known composer Jeff Toyne.
The other day I saw the attractive Gina Gershon playing a coniving mother on some Lifetime tv movie on the week. In case you don't remember, Gina Gershon has always played the vampy beauty in movies like Showgirls and I was shocked that she was being cast to play a Mom. So, it was equally jarring to see Three Musketeers Milla Jovovich being cast in a Mommy role in Dirty Girl. Then again, Jovovich first captured our attention back in 1997 starring opposite Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element and now in her mid-thirties, it's entirely conceivable that she's the mom of a young teenager.
Dirty Girl stars Juno Temple who will also be appearing with her screen Mom Milla Jovovich in the upcoming release of The Three Musketeers as Queen Anne and with Matthew McConaughey in Killer Joe as Dottie Smith. Dirty Girl opens October 7th, 2011. The movie's original motion picture soundtrack is available as a digital download on iTunes and the CD will be released on November 1, 2011 on Amazon.com.

"I Know What Boys Like" - Waitresses
Not sure if this 80s song by the Waitresses is in the movie Dirty Girl but it's referenced in the movie's poster. Such a great classic. Hope it inspires someone to do a cover.
