Every few (thousand?) years, the Doctor undergoes a “regeneration”, where he acquires a new body and a new face. In the 50th Anniversary Special, we saw the end of Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, and got a glimpse of the next...

Peter Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor. He's a little older than the others we've had recently, and so we’ll maybe see a wiser Time Lord? Maybe more eccentric too, more like the early Doctors. Many fans are excited to see what this new Doctor will bring.

What can we expect in 2014?

The Internet is full of rumours about what we might see in the new season of Doctor Who.

We already know that the Doctor has regenerated, and will be played by Peter Capaldi, accompanied by Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald the Doctor’s assistant. Many are looking forward to see how the Twelfth Doctor will turn out, and what his character will be like.

The first trailer from the BBC was action-packed, featuring familiar monsters such as Daleks as Cybermen, as well as a mysterious tentacled alien and a T-Rex. Other trailers have been much more brief, giving away very little of what is to come.

It’s sure to say, however, that the new Doctor Who will feature exciting adventures, a sophisticated story arc that slowly unwinds, and villains that are sure to have you gripping the sofa cushions!

The series starts with Deep Breath on August 23rd. Watch the trailer below...
