Faith - Korean Drama 2012

Updated on October 13, 2014

"Faith meets Fantasy, Person meets Person, Person meets Heaven"

Are you ready for another fusion sageuk Korean Drama?

I sure am!

To be honest, out of so many time-traveling dramas aired this year (ie. Rooftop Prince, romantic sweet Queen In Hyun's Man, medical drama Dr Jin, etc), Faith is on top of my list because I've been waiting for this drama ever since I heard Lee Jun Ki was cast in Faith in 2009. Unfortunately, he dropped from Faith because of mandatory military service and this drama's in limbo for years until earlier this year they decided to cast Lee Min Ho as the main heroine.

I'm equally excited to welcome Lee Min Ho back in the small screen after his action-breakthrough drama City Hunter. He's been enjoying immerse popularity and is ready to tackle his first sageuk drama.

His leading lady is Kim Hee Sun, she's cast in this drama since 2009 and has been patiently waiting for his leading man. It's her comeback to the small screen after 6 years hiatus.

Produced & written by legendary Production Director Kim Jong Hak & scriptwriter Song Ji Na who gave birth to masterpiece dramas such as The Legend and Sandglass. Unfortunately, PD Kim Jong Hak was unable to replicate his grandiose cinematography from his previous works to Faith; but overall, I still enjoyed Faith despite its many flaws, particularly in its editing.

Faith is set during Goryeo era, while the other fusion sageuk dramas were set during Joseon era. In this drama, it's the female heroine who will be traveling back by hundreds years, so will she be able to manage living in this era without her modern necessities (ie. high heels, modern clothes, make-up, etc)? And will she able to practice medicine & treat patients in this era when women got unfair treatments?

As the leading man & leading woman will slowly fall in love, will their love transcend over 700years time-span? Can they be together in the end? I hope this drama will give the viewers a roller coaster ride and a satisfying ending.

The history behind General Choi Young (played by Lee Min Ho) is also very interesting. So I really can't wait for this epic drama.

Lee Min Ho as General Choi Young
Lee Min Ho as General Choi Young

Choi Young (Lee Min Ho) [29 years old] is a warrior / King Gong Min's assistant. A young warrior who doesn't scare of death. Because he always faces with dangerous situations daily, he lives without any regrets dedicating his whole life protecting his King & his country. He also never cares about money nor woman, and he loves to sleep.

Everything changes once he meets with a woman from the modern era, Dr. Eun Soo. He asks her to go back with him to treat Princess No Guk who's injured because of assassin attack.

As both of them come from totally different era, he falls in love with her with such a pure heart. He's willing to give his love to her as well as protecting his country at the same time.

I'm looking forward to see his transformation from a young warrior to a General and from a man who never loves a woman before to a man who has found his true love trying to hold on to his woman.

Kim Hee Sun as Doctor Eun Soo
Kim Hee Sun as Doctor Eun Soo

Doctor Yoo Eun Soo (Kim Hee Sun ) [33 years old] lives in the modern era (year 2012) and is a plastic surgeon. Dreaming of opening up her own practice, one day, she's "kidnapped" by a strange man wearing an odd clothing who takes her back 700 years to treat the injured Princess.

Stumbling across hundred years time-span, her personal beliefs about medicine is challenged as she is discovering the real meaning of a true medicine by treating patients in this era. I think her journey in the ancient time will be very interesting as female doctors (physicians) were treated unequally with their fellow male physicians. In this drama, Jang Bin (Philip Lee) is one the greatest male physician & he treats the King & his family so I'm intrigued of how this drama will carry out the medical storyline.

Trapped in the ancient times, Eun Soo who never believes in love nor trust anyone will learn about a true pure love. And Eun Soo who has lots of regrets especially now as her dreams of opening up her own practice get shattered because she doesn't know how to travel back to the modern world also learn how to live her life without regret from Choi Young.

Ryu Deok Hwan as King Gong Min
Ryu Deok Hwan as King Gong Min

King Gong Min (Ryu Deok Hwan) is the King of Goryeo Dynasty of Korea.

He is shaped to be a clever King with the help from his personal assistant / warrior Choi Young and Doctor Yoo Eun Soo; a strong & real King who can make the wisest political decisions for his country.

Park Se Young as Princess No Guk
Park Se Young as Princess No Guk

Princess No Guk (Park Se Young) (future Queen No Guk) is King Gong Min's wife.

A bold woman, she's injured on her way back to Goryeo after being captured by China.

Phillip Lee as Jang Bin
Phillip Lee as Jang Bin

Jang Bin (Phillip Lee) is one of the most gifted physician & has an impressive military service record. A charismatic man and seems to be a flawless man; however, he has weakness too, especially his relationship with the others.

He's very focus in his medical field and people may find him cold on the outside. He's a really bold man.

I love you KIm Hee Sun! Keep up your hard works, I just don't understand why "Faith" rating is still very low even many people keep on prasing how interesting the story plot was..look liked Korean people don't like you act with this kid actor because he much younger than you, then better the director change the actor.
