Famous Short Actors and Entertainers
Famous Short People
Welcome to my latest Hubpage about famous short people. People surely come in all shapes and sizes. I am a fairly tall man at 6 feet 2 inches tall so I’ve never really been worried or concerned with being short. That is not to say that one should be concerned about being short. It’s just that people in general are always wishing they were taller or skinnier or prettier, etc. So, what about people who are or were famous despite being somewhat vertically challenged. There’s quite a few people that have done well for themselves or become famous despite being short. I hope you enjoy this look at some famous short people.
Gary Coleman as a boy and adult
In discussing famous short people, I’d say that Gary Coleman certainly was. This man only grew to be 4 feet 8 inches tall but rose to huge fame in the early 1980’s when he was cast as one of the child stars in the television show “Different Strokes.” I am old enough that I can remember watching this show as a kid and usually enjoying it. Coleman had some sort of ailment that prevented him from growing very tall. He had a famous catch phrase from the show where he would ask his brother on the show, “What choo talkkin’ bout Willis?” It was always funny and became a part of the popular culture. Later life was not as kind to Gary Coleman. He had jobs as a mall security officer and run ins with the law. Apparently, his parents stole a lot of his money from when he was a kid. He ended up falling in an accident and killing himself not too long ago. His loveable legacy lives on and he will be missed by his fans.
Gary Coleman as a Young Televison Star
Continuing on our look at famous short people, I’ve chosen the popular actor, Danny Devito who stands right at five feet tall. I first remember DeVito as the vile and sometimes lovable boss on the television show “Taxi.” He often “stole the show” on this program on proved to be a very entertaining performer. He took that success on to the big screen to star in movies. One of his most memorable roles was of that as the character named “The Penguin” on one of the earlier Batman movies. He was really good in this and very creepy and penguin-like. DeVito has not been in as many movies more recently as far as I can tell but I’m sure he’s got plenty of money to spend his time playing golf with stars like Jack Nicolson. Every once in a while Devito will be on a talk show with Letterman or Leno. There can be no doubt that this short man deserves to be on my list of famous short people.

Michael J. Fox
Michael J. Fox is a talented actor that stands just five feet four inches tall. Fox rose to fame in the early 1980’s television show “Family Ties.” He was very funny on that show an I recall he was a Republican and his parents were Democrats and he always had a quick wit on the show. He became really huge with the series of “Back to the Future” movies. He had a few other movie roles that did reach the same commercial success. He later had a show called “Spin City” on ABC that was also a success. He left that show an announced that he had Parkinson’s disease. He now is an active spokesperson for this disease and its cure. I know that he was also the voice of the mouse in the “Stuart Little” movies too. He’s originally from Canada and generally seems like a good guy and is well liked and respected

Prince Rocks the House
Prince makes our list of famous short people and he stands at only five feet three inches tall. That’s not very tall and I was surprised to see how tall or short that he is. Prince was huge back when his hit album “Purple Rain” movie and album soundtrack came out. It was good stuff. Prince at one point wanted to be called “the artist formerly known as Prince” or maybe people called him that because he said his name was some crazy symbol. Anyway, I believe he plays shows in Las Vegas now and I would imagine that he is paid well to do so. Prince rocks the house on our list of famous short people.
Dolly Parton - A Famous Short Woman
Standing at only 4 feet 11 inches tall, this lady packs a powerful punch of star power on our list of famous short people. Dolly Parton's long career of singing, acting, and later business woman has made her one of the most successful entertainers there is. She has her own amusement park in Tennessee, She's been in hit movies like "9 to 5" and won all kinds of country music awards. She is such a likable lady and just seems like a genuine a caring person. I have joked a times that I like Dolly Parton for a "couple" of reasons in the past. Anyway, here's to you Dolly for making my list of famous short people.
Elton John Stands only 5' 4"
Elton John Stands 5' 4"
Mega rocker and celebrity Sir Elton John stands only 5' 4". His small stature has not prevented him to be one of the most famous rock and roll legends in history. I remember when I was a kid how Elton John wore crazy glasses of all sorts and was hugely popular at the time. We even had a few 8 track tapes when I was a kid and his songs "Benny and the Jets" and "Crocodile Rock" are considered to be rock and roll classics. Later on in life Elton John continued to have success with the soundtrack to the Walt Disney movie "The Lion King". Do you remember his song "The Circle of Life"? It was excellent. Also, Elton John reworked his song about Marilyn Monroe when Princess Diana was killed in the car wreck. He sang the song at her funeral which was a moving and memorable moment in history. Elton is also well known for wearing a toupee. If you'd like to see more about famous people who wear hair pieces I have some fun articles that you may enjoy reading here. Congratulations to Elton John for being a famous short entertainer.
