Five Reason Why Red Dwarf is My Favorite

Updated on August 28, 2016

A Pop Culture Favorite Comedy

Five Reason Why Red Dwarf is my Favorite. Red Dwarf is a British sitcom, it is totally wacky and strikes me a one of the funniest TV shows I have ever seen. It takes a bit of watching to develop a taste for the kind of humor the characters project. There are only a few main character, but each is unique and their interactions with one another make it worth watching.

The premise of the show is that the crew of Red Dwarf is somewhere in deep space over 3 million years from Earth. The ship is an old worn mining ship and the crew members are the last living humans in existence. Their travel in space finds them with a new dilemma to be worked out in each episode. They encounter mutant space viruses and diseases, come across new life forms solving these problems with far fetched improbable schemes. Once you get into the series and develop an understanding of the characters and appreciate their situation, it becomes addicting and leaves the viewer with the desire to see more.

The 10th Season

The boys look a bit older, but still as hilarious as ever.

Still the Same Hilarious Crew - Laugh until your sides ache!

The Red Dwarf Series began in 1988-2009, after taking a short hiatus the group filmed season 10 in 2012. The new episode are every bit as funny as the previous season. The cast may have gotten a little older, but the comedy is spot on with antic to make you smile. You are guaranteed a smile.

I will tell you the only problem I have ever had with this show is that Lister has his appendix removed twice - without any explanation as to how he got it back. I think the first time it was mentioned was in "Thanks for the Memories" and then again in "Legion"

I'll often use the phrase "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast" when heading out to a difficult or unpleasant task. It's a great show.

Red Dwarf is one of my favorite shows as well! I often watch it before bed, lol although I think it keeps me up more than anything. My favorite episode was when Rimmer got that computer virus and was wearing a dress and had a sock puppet. SO funny!

I never heard of the show before. I watched a couple of the YouTube videos and they are pretty funny. I will have to look for them on Netflix.

I watched the show as a kid and loved it. I didn't quite get all of the humor back then, a silly example I didn't know why Cat made that funny face at the end of the "Nodnol" episode - when I watched is as an adult I almost died of laughter (poor Cat though). Brilliant series.

I had the first season on VHS, and watched it over and over. I'll have to try some of the later seasons. Definitely wacky and funny!
