Are you lookinf for free (illigal) downloads or to buy (ligal) downloads?
If you are looking to buy songs I would suggest Spotify. It is great because it allows you to listen to the songs as many times as you want without buying it...but if you really want to have them on your computer (to get them to your ipod for example) you can buy it there.
You can read my "How to Listen to Music for Free? Spotify" hub at:

Hope this helps
I don't download much anymore, just use spotify free version. I am trying napster for one month with 5 free downloads but I still prefer spotify. When I get a mobile phone that can use it, I might pay for spotify, to listen to music offline and not have the adverts. I do buy mp3's from amazon sometimes, they seem quit cheap and have some music that I can't find on spotify.
I know this site: http://musicdownloadforfree.net , hope this help
