What is this film? I watched it ages and ages ago.
Basically I remember a young girl about 12 who wanted to be a swimmer and she practiced being underwater while in the bath and she had a mum and older sister. One day while the mum was out (close to the end of the film) the older sister was babysitting but wanted to see a boyfriend of some sort so they were in a tree house being teenagers and the young girl goes out to find her sister but ends up going into the lake or river close to this treehouse and goes into it to swim but drowns.
Could it be Mermaids? It's a 1990 film. I don't remember the younger daughter drowning but she almost does. It starred Cher, Bob Hoskins, Winona Ryder, and Christina Ricci.
