It has now been confirmed by CNN and other news services that Whitney Houston age 48 has passed away. The cause of her death is not yet being reported. Sad news indeed. That lady could sing.
Just saw this - such a sad thing - an amazing talent destroyed by drugs.
Very very sad indeed. Her death is a great loss to the music community as well as the world. I am a great fan of hers and actually looking forward to hearing her more after the come back. it is just unfortunate.
Simply devastating for me. I looked up to Whitney. May the Gods and Goddesses bless Whitney in the afterlife. Thank you Whitney for all you shared with the world. Blessings.
Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday. She was 48.
Whitney Houston died much too young. I think that her tumultous marriage to Bobby Brown is probably a partial explanation for why she messed her life up so badly with drugs.
A sad sad day for the entertainment world and the world at large. She was a great singer. Shame!
Whitney....................., a great singer and her voice was amazing. Top loss for the music world and for us. Thanks a lot Whitney for your contribution to the world. Rest in peace.
This loss is beyond any words that can be written or said. So terrible and painful to so many. Our prayers should go to her mother and daughter especially. And to the rest of her family.
I just saw this earlier today - it's a tragic loss for her family, her fans and the music industry. I remember when I first saw Whitney Houston way back in the 80's it must have been when we were all young and daft. It always struck me just how beautiful this lady was and her voice just touched your soul!
A few weeks ago I saw a photograph of her and I was stunned and so saddened by her thin frame and old features - she looked nearer 60 than the 48 years she was. But I will always remember her as the beautiful singer with the stunning voice and I hope she rests in peace. Blessings to her and her family.
It was a major loss. She was a very talented woman. Sadly, she had it coming. She WAS a drug addict, so I really don't think that her death should've come as a great suprise.

It seems you can be a star, or you can be a junkie. The cosmos won't let you be both.
I reread your post several times, Friendlyword.
Some of our best and brightest stars are also addicts.
They shine like supernovas while here on earth.
But that amount of heat and light is simply too hard for the body to sustain long term.
That is why the cosmos reclaims them seemingly before their time.
It's been said many times many ways,
"Only the good die young." Billy Joel
"Die young, stay pretty." Blondie
"The harder they come, the harder they fall." Jimmy Cliff
It's not news when they get sober. But thankfully, the list of great talents who figure it out and stop putting in is long and illustrious, too.
"It's not news when they get sober. But thankfully, the list of great talents who figure it out and stop putting in is long and illustrious, too"
It seems to be the attemp at a comeback that kills them. The recovery process is insulting and not tolerated by the universe.
I hope you don't mean that the way I read it.
"The recovery process is insulting and not tolerated by the universe."
???
Recovery as in recovery from addiction?
Insulting?
Not tolerated by the universe??
Recovery as practiced by the likes of Steven Tyler, Bruce Willis, Craig Ferguson, John Laroquette, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Downey Jr., ...
That's just off the top of my head without consulting a list of famous people who are sober.
I was just trying to say it is so wrong for people like Marvin Gaye to beat drug addiction, come back with the greastest hit song of his life, and then die right in the middle of his great comeback. You know how great Heath, Micheal, Marvin, and Whitney would be today, if they survived. No insult intended here. But, these were all really tragic losses because of how they died and when they died. It was so soon after their recovery or just when they thought they made it back to fame.
God Bless Robert Downey Jr.!
Unfortunately, however, far too many of these celebrities think that they can have it both ways regarding drugs and stardom. They find out, the hard way, and too late, that they can't. What a shame!
What a terrible waste. So sad. One of the most powerful songs I have ever heard was her singing the Star Spangled banner at the the Superbowl or Olympics in the early 90's. Unbelievable.
I am in shock! She was one of my all-time favorite artists, next to Mariah. God be with the family at this time. Sad news, very sad news.
That was my first reaction! Whoa, what the heck happened?! It seems the Hollywood stars are fading fast lately. Unfortunately I have to assume relapse or a medical condition that she kept to herself. This is truly sad, she was an incredible singer.
I just read about this. Crazy. Not entirely unexpected, but crazy nonetheless.
I just don't even know where to begin. This is sad and I feel bad for her daughter and mother. This is not something a 18 year old should be dealing with.
What a huge loss. Whitney was one of the greatest female vocalist of all time. She will be missed by all. RIP Whitney. You were loved by so many.
Very sad and unexpected news. She was very young and a great singer. You will be missed Whitney Houston. Rest in peace.
Prayers go out to her Mom Cissy and her daughter Bobbi. It's so sad to lose such an awesome talent. But the effects of addiction can last a lifetime and her having a serious ailment as a result will not come as a surprise. It doesn't diminish her "one" of a kind talent and the effect it had on so many of us. I can hear her singing "I will always love you" to the depths of my soul. As only she could make you feel.
"And I-ye-I will always love you!"RIP Whitney Houston!
So incredibly sad. She has such a hard life. Finally she has found some peace!
How tragic! So so sad... I have her last album.
Rest in peace, Whitney Houston.
My friend Clint Bradford died today too, its way sad he was over shadowed by this skank! Fuck you whitney houston!!!!!!
Sorry about your friend. You should seek some help and get yourself better. I'm sure he would want that for you. Talk to a professional and get yourself a whole lot of drugs for you head. Do it to honor your friend's memory.
You have my sympathy.
RG,
Truly sorry about your friend. You are obviously in a lot of pain over his death.
I don't know him or the circumstances, but perhaps it would make you feel better to hub about your friendship. Writing is always cathartic for me.
MM
I'm sorry for your loss. I am sure this does not overshadow his death in the eyes of those who knew and loved him.
That being said, Whitney Houston did not deliberately choose to die on this day. She deserves as much respect as your friend does. We can't all be perfect people, people make mistakes and she made a big one when she got mixed up with Bobby Brown and drugs...
This is a tragedy within a beautifully spiritual and musical family. My family sends heart felt prayers to her family and to all of the people who loved her.
Whitney was one of the world's finest pop singers of all time. Her death was truly unexpected.
RIP Whitney.
Everybody should look up that old movie THE BODYGUARD. Try to look up some interviews of Whitney. She was a great singer, and a really sweet homegirl. I wish the best for Bobby and his children. RIP Whitney.
WHITNEY HOUSTON LYRICS
"I Will Always Love You"
If I
Should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go
But I know
I'll think of you every step of
the way
And I...
Will always
Love you, oohh
Will always
Love you
You
My darling you
Mmm-mm
Bittersweet
Memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So good-bye
Please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you
You need
And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
You, ooh
[Instrumental / Sax solo]
I hope
life treats you kind
And I hope
you have all you've dreamed of
And I wish you joy
and happiness
But above all this
I wish you love
And I...
Will always love you
I...
Will always love you
[Repeat]
I, I will always love
You....
You
Darling I love you
I'll always
I'll always
Love
You..
Oooh
Ooohhh
Never relised how depressing those lyrics were.
But Whitney will be remembered for singing them so beautifully.
Rest in peace Whitney.
Thank you Dolly Parton for writing such a great song. I'm sure you'll agree when I say nobody else will ever sing that song as good as Whitney sssang that song. The girl could blow!
What sad tragedy except the tragedy happened long ago when she got together with Bobby Brown and started doing drugs. There was no other like her but she destroyed her voice with that garbage she smoked and even if she did survive there was no come back. A true tragedy. RIP Whitney Houston.
If any parent is struggling with how to talk to their children about the dangers of drug use Houston's story is a perfect one to share. She had a huge career and a beautiful voice. Once she hooked up with Bobby Brown and started doing drugs she lost it all, including her life.
Very sad, although you could see it coming! Too many years of taking drugs is only going to end up badly!
This is one of the greatest tragedies of all! Whitney Houston had so much beauty, talent, and a voice beyond compare. To throw it all away on drugs and alcohol is so sad. She used them so much and trashed her own life, I'm surprised she made it to age 48. I send condolences to the Houston family on their loss of a loved one they desperately tried to help, but who continued in her addictions to the end. I feel for her daughter, Bobbie Krystina, and send my sympathy to her also. I hope she learns from her mother's mistakes and only takes the good aspects from her mother's life.
"All at once,
I finally took a moment and I'm realizing that
You're not coming back
And it finally hit me all at once
I started counting teardrops and at least a million fell"
from her first album Whitney Houston entitled "All At Once"
Thank you for the songs and the amazing voice, I love you!! RIP
Oh, this makes me so sad! She had such a LOVELY voice! A voice for the ages. And 48 years old seems way too young, to me.
Whitney Houston was truly one of the greatest talents with one of the greatest voices of our time. She lost her way but the talent will always be recognized in the music she left behind and in the young singers that have and will continue to come after her.
She may have been a tortured soul in life, but she has found peace.
And let's not forget that there is a mother, a daughter and other loved ones who are greving right now.
Another talent gone to waste. I don't mean to sound cold but whats the point in becoming a great success if you're going to blow it up your nose or bringing a shame to your family. Show business is too tough on many.I hope she RIP now.
She reminds me of Rhianna... except that Houston didnt get out of her relationship in time to end a downward spiral
Another great talent wasted. First Amy Winehouse and now Whitney Houston...Now Columbians will be in financial ruin!

Did Whitney Houston commit suicide or was it simply an accident?Whitney's fast departure from our world has brought tremendous turmoil. Do you think her death was an accident as a result of her drug habit or did she in fact know what she was doing when she drowned in the bathtub?

Why is it that everyone rushed to write about the death of Whitney Houston? While the passing of Davey Jones hasn't received a word, I was just curious what everyone thinks.
