The Friendly Giant

Updated on December 2, 2012

Robert Homme, the Friendly Giant

I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, and I watched a lot of Canadian children's programming. The Friendly Giant was one of my favorites.

The TV show ran from September 1958 through March, 1985. The host of the program was Bob Homme for most of those years.

It may seem very low budget or even "cheesy" to us now, but the show always had an endearing quality.

I recently showed it to my sons, ages 3 and 5, and they were captivated. Remember, kids don't know "old." They enjoy this gentle show, and I think they benefit greatly from a program that isn't constantly bombarding them with flashing lights and violence.
