What is a Viral Video You Ask?

A viral video is a video that is shared and has received many views in a short period of time. I'm talking millions of views from people all across the world. If a video receives thousands of views in just a few hours after being posted it has the potential of becoming viral. These videos are usually shared by social media, television and email and can spread like wildfire. We've all watched a few videos that were recommended by a friend or family member who enjoyed it and passed it on. We watch the video, share it, our friends share it, our friend’s friends share it. The rest is history. Laughter is the best medicine and a funny viral video can make a person’s day.

David is Too Funny! "Is This Real Life"

What Makes for a Good Viral Video?

Some people love funny, some people love gore. Some people love to see others fall and hurt themselves. That's just sick. We love bloopers and cars sliding into each other. We love news anchors who lose it on air. A video that captures the interest of people and they immediately want to share it with family and friends has all the ingredients of going viral. These videos are usually short and not planned. The best videos are the ones that just happen out of the blue. The unexpected funny that can't be directed. The bust your gut kind of funny. The videos that make your eyeliner run are always the funniest.

5 Subjects That Make the Best Viral Videos

  1. Kids seem to make the best funny videos because everything about the video is unscripted and natural. Is this real life?
  2. Oh we also love cats and squirrels. Cats are crazy and squirrels are crazier. They both have people characteristics that give them great video presence. If you’ve ever seen a squirrel hanging upside down from a bird feeder, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
  3. The man or woman who’s caught off guard by the camera and just goes all in. No filters. Now we all remember “Sweet Brown” don’t we?
  4. A person you can scare out of their shoes, literally. Some people scare easier than others and their reactions or priceless! The viral videos will have you dying laughing at the expense of another.
  5. The blonde, that’s not really a blonde, but has blonde moments. I call them blonde moment people. We all have our blonde moments. You can hit me in the head with it and I still won’t get it moments. I can’t remember where I parked my car moments. Grandma trying to use snapchat moments. On the phone talking and looking for your phone moments. These moments captured by mistake on video are truly the funniest.

We love videos like these because they show the human side of us. Viral videos show the silly side of people just going about their everyday life. When we can relate to the people or situations in the videos we immediately want to share it with our family and friends. There are millions of viral videos floating around, some tasteful and some not as much. Some videos are just down right hilarious and we have to share.

Viral videos will be around for a very long time. So prepare yourself just in case you come across something that has viral potential. Most of us can take video on our cell phones in a snap. Keeping your camera and video equipment close by is always a good idea. You may even become the subject for the best viral videos. People just don’t realize how a simple home video can change their lives forever. You can go from being a person that only your family and friends know to being on Ellen and other talk shows and news outlets. The people in viral videos have millions of fans before they even know what’s going on. For some going viral can bring on huge success and many great opportunities. So Let's Go Viral!
