Futurama vs Simpsons

Updated on October 13, 2014

Two of the Best Animated Comedies

The Simpsons and Futurama are animated sitcoms which are very popular in the US and the rest of the world. Both of them are created by the same person, Matt Groening, and even animated by the same company, Rough Draft Studios. The humor is somewhat different however, with Simpsons parodying a modern middle-class family and Futurama depicting life in a retrofuturistic 31st century.

Which show do you think is better, and why? This page was built for determining the winner. All you have to do is vote for your favorite show (and maybe leave a short comment saying why). May the best one win!

About Futurama

Futurama is a sci-fi sitcom which follows the adventures of a simple 20th-century pizza delivery guy, Philip J. Fry, who after being cryogenically frozen for a thousand years wakes up in a retrofuturistic 31st century.

The show satirically depicts the everyday life in the future and uses both silly slapstick humor and less-obvious nerdy jokes, such as Professor Farnsworth complaining that judges of a quantum finish "changed the outcome by measuring it".

Futurama was originally aired from 1999 to 2003 on Fox and has won 3 Primetime Emmy awards and 5 Annie awards. Seasons five, six, and seven were broadcast by Comedy Central from 2008 to 2013.

The first season of Simpsons was originally aired from 1989 to 1990.

About Simpsons

The Simpsons is a satirical cartoon by Matt Groening that parodies the everyday life of a middle-class American family.

The Simpsons family consists of Homer (a buffoon who loves watching TV and drinking beer on his couch), Marge (a stereotypical housewife), Bart (a 10 year old troublemaker), Lisa (a precocious 8 year old) and Maggie, a baby who doesn't speak and is constantly sucking on a pacifier. The cartoon takes place in a fictional town of Springfield and also features a big array of secondary characters, some of them fan-favorites.

The show has been running since 1989 and won a big number of awards including 25 Primetime Emmy awards, 26 Annie awards and a Peabody award. It is the longest-running animated program produced in US.

My Favorite: Futurama

I grew up watching Simpsons on TV, so this show will always have a special place in my heart. However, if I have to pick a favorite out of the two, then it is definitely Futurama. I just love the outrageous sci-fi elements combined with all sorts of comedy. I think Simpsons might be held back by its setting (modern America), while in Futurama the characters can visit distant planets, travel through time, and the show can also introduce various aliens and make fun of various sci-fi tropes.

I defiantly think Futurama is better than The Simpsons. It has episodes that will make you cry and start throwing things at the tv screen saying "NO!" What? Am I the only one? Any way it is also funny and it will be in my heart forever! î¢

The Simpsons is great but Futurama takes those qualities and adds extra smarts and sci fi imagination and buzz. It also has the best cartoon eye candy.
