Song Lyrics I Love
I am not musical; I mean, I can barely play the radio, but I still enjoy great lines from songs. I wanted to share my favorites with you.
If you have time, play the YouTube version of the song provided and take a break from your busy day. This lens is simply for fun. I hope you enjoy my choices.

Genius Songwriter - Tower of Song
Leonard Cohen I'm...Buy This at Allposters.com
I just "discovered" Leonard Cohen a few years ago though I'd heard many of his songs. I just didn't know he was the genius behind them. Here are just a few of his best lyrics:
"My friends are gone, and my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play" from Tower of Song, music and lyrics by Leonard Cohen.
See the entire lyrics to Tower of Song here. This song is performed by Leonard Cohen and U2 on the DVD "I'm Your Man" tribute to Leonard Cohen, and Leonard Cohen sings it on "LIve in London," which is featured here in the YouTube video.
Mary-Chapin Carpenter
"And hopefulness is like a drug
It makes a girl believe in love
And if somehow you love us back
We think there's something wrong with that."
~ Mary-Chapin Carpenter from Girls Like Me
Great Song Lyrics - Mary-Chapin Carpenter
I'm a huge fan of Mary-Chapin Carpenter. She writes most of her own songs, and she just speaks to me. I think she's wise and witty and wonderful.
The lyrics shown here are from the song Girls Like Me on the CD Between Here and Gone. My favorite lyrics of MCC's changes as I listen to her music. There are so many good ones! Click here for the lyrics to the song Girls Like Me.
Mary-Chapin Carpenter - Great Albums, CDs, Songs for a Great Singer/Songwriter
I've been a fan of Mary-Chapin Carpenter for years. Her lyrics and soulful singing are beautiful.
Barenaked Ladies
"I could hide out under there.
I just made you say 'underwear'."
~ Barenaked Ladies from Pinch Me
Funny Song Lyrics - Barenaked Ladies
I think the Barenaked Ladies are hilarious and write and sing some great songs! Pinch Me with the line about "I just made you say 'underwear'" is a hoot! Click this link to the Pinch Me lyrics.
I also love this line from If I Had Million Dollars:
If I had a 1,000,000 (If I had a 1,000,000)
i'd but you a green dress ( but not a real green dress that's cruel) .
Barenaked Ladies
Bellamy Brothers
"If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?
If I swore you were an angel would you treat me like the devil tonight?"
~ Bellamy Brothers from
If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body
Clever Lyrics Country Style
The Bellamy Brothers - If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body
You've gotta love those clever country songs that use a play on words to make their point. The Bellamy Brothers hit a home run with "If you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?" I just love a good play on words!
Dobie Gray
"Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul.
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away."
~ written by Mentor Williams
covered by Dobie Gray from Drift Away
Drift Away - Sing it, Dobie Gray
Dobie Gray
Thanks to Kay for this entry! Though he didn't write Drift Away, the most popular version of Drift Away was sung by Dobie Gray.
