100 Most Scary Horror Movies

Updated on August 24, 2017

Creepy Films that Scares the $#! out of you

Horror is among that genre which often amuses and attracts people but most of the time they get dis-appointment in return when they go and watch modern horror flicks. Reason is that most film directors focus on blood and gore rather than concentrating on the real psychological horror.

I usually like to watch such films while sitting in a dark room alone at night. I did got Goosebumps after watching several scary flicks but others made me sleep. This is universal truth that films of this genre have most stupid plot than any other genre.

Lately i have observed a trend that Hollywood is following Asian flicks in this genre. You will find a lot of slasher flicks of Hollywood that are remakes of Asian horror films. I tried to include only those remakes which were either really scary or gained a huge cult following.

So here i compiled a list of 100 best horror movies which were loved by people and had impact on pop culture. Also i chose my 10 personal favorite flicks from the list.

I have followed certain rules while making this list which are as follows :

1.Mainly A-list Films of this genre are included, Only Those B-List Horror Flicks are included which gained Cult-following later on.

2. Horror-Comedies are not included.

3. Sequels and Prequels are not included, they are added with the original part.

If you don't find your favorite scary film in the list, then let me know in comment section below.

So Here Goes the list.

They might not be afraid of a ghostly inhabitant but they might get scared of thinking about a psycho serial killer. Which horror movie did scared you the most? Vote up your favorite

Lately it's been The Ring because it's just different, creepy and the end is so bizarre. Makes a person wonder what they would do in a similar position.

I think Audition, by far, was one of the most unique movies of its kind. I really like Rosemary's Baby back in the day. And Birds freaked me out as a 6 year old kid left me with bird phobia for the rest of my life (no kidding). Other than that, I wouldn't list Paranormal Activity in that list, just my personal opinion. A lot of people are divided in 2 with this one. I think it was a big commercial baloon, the movie was just plain boring.Other than that, I love your list.

I'm partial to zombie movies. I loved 28 Days Later, but Shaun of the Dead is my favorite zombie movie of all time. I don't really think you could categorize that one as a true horror movie though. Oh wait, now that I think of it, you might want to check out the movie, The Descent, I think you would end up adding that to your list.

The original Japanese language version of Ringu is easily the creepiest movie I have ever seen, light on gore but really very creepy *shudder*. I didn't watch the remake but I heard they did a pretty decent job. I will have to check out [rec] as that's the first I heard of it.
