How to Make Good Music

Updated on November 18, 2014

There is So Much About Music

Sometimes a good piece of music stops me in my tracks. I often get tears in my eyes when the vocal cords of some fantastic singer vibrate with resonance on the strength of a fantastic note. Thrills run up and down my spine when a singer treats a great song with reverence and puts her or his heart into it. There are a few singers who do this to me and among them are Vera Lynne, Nat King Cole, Barbara Striesend, Mario Lanza and who can forget the unforgettable talents of Kathryn Grayson, Julie Andrews and the like.

One of my favorite songs is Blue Moon.

Well played music is also a track stopper. That of great composers like Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and of course the older ones like Strauss and Beethoven, to name but a few. So we are blessed with a wealth of music from these great creators and performers The musicians like Glen Miller, should never be forgotten either and the list goes on.

Music sings to the heart and refreshes the soul. We can think, remember, love and dream while listening to it.

Learn to Play Online

Many programs are just too easy

No longer do you have to learn as a young child because with modern technology playing an instrument is a breeze. Traditionally young children are encouraged to learn the piano or some simple instrument like the recorder. I can remember with some pain my music lessons when I was taught the violin. The worst part of that experience was the theory which involved a special class on Saturday mornings when everyone else was off playing and spending time with their friends or families. It was such a drag and most of it I could not understand.

Later on it was easier to teach myself to play the piano with the little bit of knowledge gained as a result but the whole experience of learning music was one I would rather forget.

How Much Do You LOVE Music

You can't beat the relaxing power of a good tune. It eases the pain of work, it soothes the frustration of a busy day, it makes the time pass more pleasantly and it sets the mood for a party, an evening with friends or doing something alone, such as painting.

As an artist I love to put on music to paint by and often insert a disc when I am surfing the web. But it has to be the right kind of music to suit my mood and as one ages that which suits young people certainly does not suit me, unless it is along the lines of what I have described.

Thanks for your fascinating aritlce. One other problem is that mesothelioma is generally brought on by the breathing of materials from asbestos, which is a extremely dangerous material. It can be commonly witnessed among staff in the building industry that have long experience of asbestos. It can also be caused by residing in asbestos insulated buildings for a long time of time, Genetic makeup plays an important role, and some persons are more vulnerable on the risk in comparison with others.

Most of the time, yes. Of course, if that is my goal, then I have to be selective and listen only to uplifting music. Other times, I want to listen to music that is reflective, sentimental, thought-provoking, instructional, motivating, reminiscent, or sometimes just plain silly.

It certainly does - if it's good music and I like it! But bad music is like torture to me

Music can do more than lift my spirits, It can also pump me up for an event, comfort me when I'm sad, and make more patient with others. I love music:)

I want my music to be half and half. Sometimes happy just doesn't cut it. When I'm feeling a certain emotion, all I want is understanding, like a friend. I hate bubblegum music because it kind of rubs an impossible elation in your face. And I hate music where people cry about their problems, too.

I find music to be very emotional and sometimes inspiring. Not all music makes me happy though. Jazz and blues tends to make me sad, so I rarely listen to them. I love listening to instrumental music when I create because it inspires my soul!

        Not always.

      • Miha Gasper 5 years ago from Ljubljana, Slovenia, EU

Sometimes yes, but it made me depressed too...

      • Peter Murray 6 years ago from Izmir, Turkey

Not always. Sometimes some music is depressing.

Johann Strauss - Blue Danube Waltz

This is probably the first tune that made a great impression on me. At the time I was a small child in school and we had a large collection of songs in a filing system something like a calendar that flicks over at the top. Among its many pages was the Blue Danube Waltz.

Being somewhat a good singer my imagination would roam in search of a blue colored river called the Danube and would picture the romantic attachment that the composer must have had for it. It would be many years before I fully understood the story behind this great tune but the sudden pulsing o my heart whenever I hear it reminds me of those days when we stood as a chorus and sung the words.

These are the words represented on the askville site of Amazon but they are not the ones we sang at school

      The Blue Danube

Danube so blue, so bright and blue,

through vale and field you flow so calm,

our Vienna greets you, you silver stream

through all the lands you merry the heart

      with your beautiful shores.

      Far from the Black Forest

      you hurry to the sea

      giving your blessing to everything.

      Eastward you flow,

      welcoming your brothers,

A picture of peace for all time!

Old castles looking down from high,

greet you smiling from their steep

      and craggy hilltops,

      and the mountains' vistas

      mirror in your dancing waves.

      The mermaids from the riverbed,

      whispering as you flow by,

      are heard by everything

      under the blue sky above.

      The noise of your passing

is a song from old times

      and with the brightest sounds

your song leads you ever on.

      Stop your tides at Vienna,

      it loves you so much!

      Whenever you might look

you will find nowhere like Vienna!

      Here pours a full chest

      the charms of happy wishes,

      and heartfelt German wishes

are flown away on your waters.

      The school's version started with

      Moonlight gleams, moonlight, moonlight,

      Like fairy beams, . . . .

      Kathryn Grayson - Always

In my mind she has the purest, richest voice of any female artist. Her range is incredible and from the first time I ever heard her sing, which may have been in Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty, I was hooked. Many artists come close but none have ever captured the clarity of such notes as she makes light work of any tune. It was beyond me to know how anyone could have so much talent.

She was equally as skillful as an actress when she played in unforgettable roles, such as Showboat, and performed opposite to Mario Lanza in movies like Because You're Mine and so many others. In the scenes where they sing together my heart throbs to double time. It is normal for me to stop everything and watch one of their movies when it comes on television.

She was a great lady and she gave us such fabulous, unforgettable tunes.

      The Desert Song [VHS]
      The Desert Song [VHS]

Any of Grayson's songs are memorable and worth having and those like Showboat and others are all well known. The Desert Song, however, is one of my favorites and a real treasure from my youthful days.

      Music Is In Our Blood

What parent doesn't sing to their infants. Rock a baby and the tune is automatic. Feel good about something and you sing out loud whatever song is on your mind.

It goes side by side with our emotions, our love, our passions and throughout all our lives it is there. We enjoy it, we love it and we embrace it.

      Nat King Cole - Unforgettable

This artist has the most unique style of any that ever made a record. With ease and wonderful clarity he sings with his heart and the notes just glide off his vocal chords like a skater on ice. Seemingly without effort he has thrilled audiences around the globe and continues to do so with his legacy on records and in movies.

My brother went a tour with him once when he came to Australia and I will never forget the comment he made or the glow in his eyes when he first met him. "Today I have met a great man and I may never wash my hand again," he announced.

The world was truly robbed of a great talent when he was taken from us.

      The Christmas Song
      The Christmas Song

If you can sing a great tribute to Christmas then it has to come from the mouth of Nat King Cole. This is a great album and well worth having,

Company provides over 1,500 PDF files and over 30,000 MIDI and Mp3 files. It has ways to learn to play and enjoy it. Its repertoire of several genres encourages visits to their site to check them out..

Cole Porter - Night and Day

This composer was, like many of his time, one of the greatest. Show Boat stands out but there are just so many other of his tunes that it would be hard to pick the best out of them. But Night and Day would have to be right up there as one of the greatest, but so too is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.

Fortunately for us we have a great legacy of his work to share with our children,

Mario Lanza - I'll Walk With God

When aged 12, 13 and 14 it was my good fortune to have a part-time job at a milk-bar cafe opposite the movie theatre on Bondi Beach. That was when I first heard this magnificent voice and it was imperative that I stop and listen. After that whenever one of his movies played the effect increased until I was so in love with this voice that my enthusiasm for it drove others mad.

Night after night or day after day as the movie played on, sometimes for a week or more, my mind, heart and soul drank in the sheer beauty of it. Even today it stops me dead whenever his voice is played on the radio or television. Of course I ended up owning dozens of his records and they inspired me in my paintings and other creative endeavors.

His death hit me hard and I still cannot believe that he is dead. Well to me he never will be.

      Music Fades Over Time

So how do we preserve it?

As we hear in these recordings things are not as clear as they once were. The backgrounds are scratchy, the overall performance is a bit hard to take but that is why we should buy new recordings from the companies who supply the golden oldies in as new condition. There is also a problem with storage.

My oldies are on vinyl and they require a special way of stacking them or they warp. But the problem is worse because I don't have a turntable

Glen Miller - In The Mood

This man had a dream and he fulfilled it and gave the world one of the greatest sounds that any band could achieve. His life story has recently aired on local television and I advise anyone who gets the chance to watch it to do so.

He is still an inspiration to all musicians and his tragic death, again at such a young age, affected millions. he died at the end of WWII in a plane crash somewhere between England and France on his way to a concert in Paris. There are many of his tunes which are my favorites including Little Brown Jug, Moonlight Serenade and this one.

The delight you feel intensely for great music is contagious. I cannot even imagine my life without music in it. I can relate to what you shared about your violin lessons as a child. Though mine were piano lessons, the theory and reasons for much of what I had to do went way over my 9 year old head. As an adult, while teaching myself, I returned to the pure joy of playing.

I was brokenhearted although I have the Lord on my fab 5, The pain of watching my loved ones suffer, yet another day, has been thick and relentless. I find myself tearing up just from thinking back for mere seconds, but that first song just helped to push the focus from my happy past and sad reality, over to eagerly looking forward to Jesus's guide, and I feel like I just have met the dawn of my attitude adjustment, into positively expecting the good to come, and I pray I can stand strong when vices call to "ease the pain, when really, they just add one more day to the fall. That one sentence, I must go on now, is the one that sparked me, along with the angels. So thank you from the bottom of my empty, but thanks to you all, my slowly refilling heart. The future is all we have left! Thanks you

Wonderful music lens and the piano is one musical instrument that is used quite often if folks just listen. Just singing is relaxing even if one can or cannot carry a tune it's still relaxing. Thanks for featuring my lens also. So many choices that I'll have music from now on.
