How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Updated on April 22, 2014

In a game of cat and mouse, Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey take the silver screen and steel the show. This movie is hilarious. It's flirty and fun. It is the perfect movie for date night because the humor will keep your guy entertained and guys the romance will melt your sweetie's heart.

Taken from the cartoon book, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, written by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long, this film brings Hudson and McConaughey together on the screen to make magic. Hudson plays Andie Anderson, a writer that works for Composure, a magazine that has her in the position of writing a "How To" column and Andie is, frankly bored, and tired of writing about things that do not matter. She wants to write about politics, poverty, economics, and something that will, in her opinion, make a difference.

Andie's coworker is going through yet another breakup and somehow Andie ends up sucked into writing an article about how to lose a guy in ten days. McConaughey plays Benjamin Barry, an advertising executive, who makes a bet with his coworkers that he can get any girl to fall in love with him. Andie and Benjamin meet and little do either know that they both have a target on their back for the others schemes. As they each slowly become putty in one another's hands, this film will have you laughing throughout. Andie is trying to lose Ben for her article. Ben is trying to get Andie to fall in love with him for his bet. She can't seem to shake this guy and he doesn't understand why she is pushing him away when he can tell she likes him.

The character Andie reminds me so much of me. Just like she continually tries to push Benjamin away, I too find myself doing things in life that seem like I sometimes try to push my heavenly Father away. It's almost a subconscious thing that I do, almost as if I'm testing to see if God really loves me, if He will forsake me if I screw up again. But God, with His perfect, unfailing love, continues to pursue me, just as Benjamin pursues Andie in this movie.

As true love starts to work its way onto the scene all bets might be off. How can Benjamin win his bet without hurting her? How can Andie write her article without really losing the man of her dreams? Will they both turn out losers or will love conquer all?

I haven't watched it yet, but because of this lens, I'll make sure to watch it. I'm a Matthew McConaughey fan too and I'm a sucker for love stories.
