How to Throw a Big Brother Theme Party

Updated on October 5, 2014

Big Brother Party

Need Big Brother party ideas? I have suggestions for food, games, trivia and more. I always look forward to watching this show each summer and waiting to see what new twists and turns the season will bring.

Listen to the show's theme song while you're here and check out a funny video by Will and Mike. You can even test your knowledge of the show with a short quiz. A Big Brother party is fun to throw on the same night as an episode or perfect for the season finale when one guest will win $500,000.

If hosting the party, you can play the role of Julie Chen. You can keep it simple or get all dressed up as you portray her. Ready for more ideas?

Big Brother Key

If you're a fan of Big Brother, then you know that keys are an important symbol of the game. First, each contestant who is accepted into the game receives a key with their name on it, indicating that the person has been accepted onto the show.

Keys are also used at the nomination ceremony where contestants learn who is safe and who is up for eviction.

An idea is to hand each guest a key when they arrive. I've provided one below that you are welcome to print out. Write a guest's name on each key, then use a hole punch at the top. Run a piece of yarn through it and tie up as a necklace. It's not as big as the official show key, but it can work. You can use these just for fun or for elimination ceremonies if you choose to do them.

Big Brother Food

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

If you're having a party, then there's got to be food. In sticking with Big Brother tradition, why not hold a food competition to determine the "haves" and "have nots?" For the "haves," serve some regular party type food. For the "have nots," although contestants are currently getting slop, I would suggest reverting to the earlier Big Brother days and serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Now, most people don't have the resources to set up an elaborate food competition, so here's a simple one you can do. Give each guest a blown up balloon and have them place the balloons between their knees. Then, have each person raise one leg so they only have one leg to stand on. Anyone who drops their balloon or looses their balance and puts their other foot down is out of the competition. The first half of your guests who lose becomes the "have nots," while the other half become the "haves" and get to eat the good food.

Big Brother Season 14

Episode 1
Episode 1

In this exciting season, veterans houseguests Dan Gheesling, Janelle Pierzina, Britney Haynes and Mike "Boogie" Malin return to coach a group houseguests, then eventually are allowed to join the game. I found this to be one of Big Brother's best seasons.

Big Brother trivia can make for some fun party games. You can use these ideas for fun or for veto competitions, should you decide to hold elimination ceremonies. You can also use them for head of household competitions.

Here's one idea. Hold a competition whereas guests have to identify which season particular contestants came from. You can do the research on your own, or here's a 10 question list of Q & A you can use. The list here reflects the first season contestants appeared as some have been on the series more than once.

1. Jessie Godderz-Season 102. Eddie McGee-Season 13. Dick Donato-Season 84. Lisa Donahue-Season 35. Britney Haynes-Season 126. Janelle Pierzina -Season 67. Will Kirby-Season 28. Frank Eudy-Season 149. Marcellas Reynolds-Season 310. Elissa Slater-Season 15Another idea is to set up a prediction game. Guests can predict what will happen in the episode they are about to watch.

Here are some suggestions:1. Who will be the first person talking in the Diary Room?2. Who will be the first contestant to be bleeped because of bad language?3. How many contestants will cry during an episode?4. How many times will the word "alliance" be spoken?5. Who will tell the first lie?6. Who will be the first contestant to be shown eating?7. Who will be the first person to visit the HOA room?8. How many commercials will be shown during the episode?9. At what time will the episode end, barring commercials.10. How many times will the words "Big Brother" be spoken?

As the party host, it will be up to you to follow along to make sure the questions are answered correctly.

Big Brother Dick Donato
Big Brother Dick Donato

Over the years, Big Brother has seen a lot of colorful characters, including Dick Donato, who is pictured here. A suggestion is to have guests come dressed as their favorite BB characters.

If you don't mind getting messy, have a cooler and alphabet letters such as from a game of Scrabble or Up Words, You can create your own version of a Big Brother game.Pick up some cheap shaving foam at a dollar type store. Put the cooler outside and toss the letters in. Fill the cooler with shaving cream. Guests will have to put their hands in and pull out one letter at a time and bring it to their own designated area.

This is a timed five minute game. Once a contestant feels he or she has enough letters, the letters are to be arranged to form a word. Whoever is able to form the longest word after five minutes of game play wins.I've always been amused at the different costumes and props that are used in the various competitions. You might consider having some of these around to use during active competitions.

Big Brother Diary Room

Just like in the TV show, set up a video camera in a different room and put a sign on the door saying Diary Room. Throughout the party, guests can come in and tape messages regarding the guests and the party. At the end of the party, play back the video and watch all of the laughs when your guests see each others comments.
