Incarnation of Money - Korean Drama 2013

Updated on October 2, 2014

Incarnation of Money (also known as Money Demon) is currently piquing my interest, a drama about money & corruption? I think it's going to be cracking fantastic.

The director and scriptwriter duo from Giant and History of Salaryman are back. I have full confidence in both direction and script; History of Salaryman was one of my favorite drama of 2012 as it has a fresh, unique storyline with solid acting & snappy comedic tone (similar like a black comedy tone). Hopefully they will transform Incarnation of Money into another fresh solid dark comedy satire drama and open our eyes about the root of all evils, money.

Acting-wise, this drama has scored the top notch actors and the actors who worked with them previously in either Giant / History of Salaryman, such as Hwang Jung Eum (Giant, Can You Hear my Heart, Golden Time, Full House 2) and Park Sang Min (Giant).

The leading male character, Lee Cha Don went to Kang Ji Hwan, they had a very rough time casting him and very persistent to help him resolving his disputes until he's able to join the cast. Taking part as the young Lee Cha Don is Park Ji Bin, a natural talented young actor. Although I don't really see any resemblance between Kang Ji Hwan & Park Ji Bin; it doesn't really matter because I just watched episode 1 and Park Ji Bin really killed it! Unfortunately Kang Ji Hwan only appeared for less than 5 minutes, but I'm glad to see him back in the dramaland.

Lee Cha Don (Lee Kang Seok) had a warm childhood, his parents truly love and adore him. He grew up as a clever kid who knew that his father committed infidelity but he never told his mother about his father's affair. Fortunately, his mother found out about it, but things went terribly wrong afterwards as she's trapped and falsely accused that she killed his husband.

Years later, Lee Cha Don (who's a debtor) is locked in a mental institution and released because his childhood friend, Bok Jae In (Hwang Jung Eum), a daughter of a loan shark told them that she's his wife (in truth, she's his fake wife). Bok Jae In was an overweight girl (Hwang Jung Eum greets fans in special make-up & costume for her new role) and she'll transform into a beautiful woman who'll capture the hearts of many men. She didn't really care about money until she's faced with an unfamiliar situation as the president of a bank. Will her heart change from a pure woman to a greedy woman?

Using money from the loan shark, Cha Don is able to become a prosecutor in the District Court and he meets with Jun Ji Hoo (Lee Tae Im), a female prosecutor who falls in love with him. Ji Se Kwang (Park Sang Min) is an upright prosecutor who's against corruption, so it'll be very interesting to see this idealist man -v- money-hungry man Cha Don.

Incarnation of Money premiered last weekend (2 February 2013) and gained a decent viewership rating of around 9% nationally. So far it's so good, can't wait to see how the plot will develop.
