Is Jem and the Holograms Coming Back?

Recently, the Internet has been buzzing with news that a possible full-length Jem and the Holograms live action movie is in the works. As soon as I heard this exciting news, I instantly began to remember when I first fell in love with this animated, pink haired, pop star in the 80s.

Jem and the Holograms came way before Hannah Montana

Today, many people know, and possibly despise, Miley Cyrus and her alter ego, Hannah Montana. However, cool 80's kids, like me, know that Jem and the Holograms came way before Hannah Montana. In fact, Miley wasn't even born when Jem was popular. Much like Hannah Montana, Jem was a pop star who had a secret identity. In her everyday life, Jem was known as Jerrica Benton. Jerrica is the owner and operator of Starlight Music, a foster mother, and also a glamorous rock star.

Meet the Holograms

Jem was obviously my favorite, but she wouldn't have enjoyed so much fame without her equally fantastic band mates. The other ladies in the band included Aja, Shana, and Kimber. Jem and the Holograms also had a rivalry with a similar band; the Misfits. Many of the animated episodes that aired between 1985 and 1988 focused on Jem/Jerrica's conflict of having to lead two very different lives and the bands rivalry with the Misfits.

Jem and the Holograms are 80's Icons

In the 80s, I was a little girl and Jem and the Holograms was geared specifically for girls my age. Not only did I watch the cartoon, but I also had Jem and the Hologram dolls, Jem t-shirts, and knew all the words to every song the band sang. For this reason, I am completely stoked that their may be a Jem and the Holograms movie in the works. After all, I am a mom to a tween and I have had so much fun introducing her to other 80 iconic figures including Rainbow Brite, Punky Brewster, She-Ra, and My Little Pony, so introducing her to Jem would be the icing on the cake. In preparation of watching the rumored film, I plan on watching as many Jem and the Hologram episodes as possible. I can imagine that many moms who were little in the 80s will also be doing exactly the same thing.
