Reliving the Past with Journey's Greatest Hits

Cruising with my pals along the country roads of Oahu, enjoying the lush greens of the island landscape that is Hawaii, the endless streams of songs keep us company throughout the journey. During the 80's we still relied on radio for our music and while we had tapes, CD's didn't exist. Back then music was my friend, always there when I needed an escape. Love songs that lighted a desire for a lover of my own, powerful anthems that gave me the power and courage to go on despite the ups and downs of youth. And when I was at my lowest point in life, a song encouraged me to go on.

From the radio speakers a band called Journey belted out a song entitled "Don't Stop Believin!' During one of the most darkest times of my life, lead vocal Steve Perry belted out lyrics that literally spoke to me. It's still one of my favorite songs to date. It's also interesting to note that although the song wasn't an instant success back then, it has gone to become one of most popular songs in recent years, gaining popularity through its use on various movies and TV shows, such as The Wedding Singer, Rock of Ages and the popular TV series Glee

The Verdict

This "Greatest Hits" album also includes other hits such as Only The Young, Open Arms and the beautiful rock ballad, Faithfully - 16 songs total in this collection.  If you're a Journey fan, there's no excuse not to already have this in your music collection.

For me, this compilation of Journey's most beloved hits hark back to a more innocent time, bringing back memories of long drives with friends, teenage crushes and longing for love.

Are you familiar with Journey? Who is your favorite musician or band? Don't forget to leave a comment. Thanks!

My husband and I have always been big Journey fans. I, too, watched the PBS special about how they found their new lead singer, Arnel Pineada, whose voice on lead vocals is so similar to Steve Perry's it's eerie, especially considering that they look nothing alike. Finding Arnel has allowed Journey's music to live on in live concerts, and that's a wonderful gift to those of us who love the band and those who have yet to discover them.

I love a lot of the Journey songs, and especially like listening to their new lead singer. I've watched a PBS special about how they found the new lead, and it's a very interesting story.

They are the best! and the story behind how they found Arnel Pineada, their new lead singer, around 2007, is incredible - the news piece I watched on that years ago made me cry, what a story

It's remarkable how well the music of Journey stands up, after all these years, isn't it? Great band!

They had so many good songs. Love this one, and Open Arms, and.... Great review Smine27. I agree, so many of the songs then had words that we wanted to live. I wonder if that is still true for kids today. Hope so!

Great review! âDonât Stop Believin!â has a lot of memories for me too! I was there at the beginning of the Beatles and the Stones, so I would have to say they have the most meaning for me in my teen years.
