Reliving the Past with Journey's Greatest Hits
Cruising with my pals along the country roads of Oahu, enjoying the lush greens of the island landscape that is Hawaii, the endless streams of songs keep us company throughout the journey. During the 80's we still relied on radio for our music and while we had tapes, CD's didn't exist. Back then music was my friend, always there when I needed an escape. Love songs that lighted a desire for a lover of my own, powerful anthems that gave me the power and courage to go on despite the ups and downs of youth. And when I was at my lowest point in life, a song encouraged me to go on.
From the radio speakers a band called Journey belted out a song entitled "Don't Stop Believin!' During one of the most darkest times of my life, lead vocal Steve Perry belted out lyrics that literally spoke to me. It's still one of my favorite songs to date. It's also interesting to note that although the song wasn't an instant success back then, it has gone to become one of most popular songs in recent years, gaining popularity through its use on various movies and TV shows, such as The Wedding Singer, Rock of Ages and the popular TV series Glee.
The Verdict
This "Greatest Hits" album also includes other hits such as Only The Young, Open Arms and the beautiful rock ballad, Faithfully - 16 songs total in this collection. If you're a Journey fan, there's no excuse not to already have this in your music collection.
For me, this compilation of Journey's most beloved hits hark back to a more innocent time, bringing back memories of long drives with friends, teenage crushes and longing for love.
