6 Under Rated Movies That Deserve Recognition

Updated on October 24, 2014

6 Underrated Movies That I Love

Throughout the history of films there have been movies that have fallen by the wayside. Movies, that most certainly deserve our recognition. These movies are cherished and loved by those who were fortunate enough to come across them. It's our duty to let people know about these cinematic wonders. Here is a list of movies that should be watched, most indefinite. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!" So you'll never know if you like them until you watch them.

Rooting For The UnderDog!

Everyone loves rooting for the underdog. We love it when the small guy takes out the big guy. David & Goliath, Tweety & Sylvester....the list goes on & on. I'm always surprised when something or someone doesn't get the recognition they deserve. It's even more unsettling when unworthy items make their way into the spotlight. This list of movies, I put together here, are some of my all time favorites. They even contain the underdog elements. I hope you give them a look & enjoy them as much as I do & have.

The Monster Squad!

One of the most underrated movies of all time!

The Monster Squad (20th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]
The Monster Squad (20th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]

Rated PG-13. Made In 1987.

Dracula & his horde of monsters are looking to bring eternal darkness to Earth. Once every hundred years the war of good vs. evil is at it's peak and the opportunity for either to win is at hand. The only thing that stands in the monster's way is a group of kids who coin themselves "The Monster Squad"

A group of kids vs. monsters! It's like The Goonies but with monsters! Granted, the goonies kind of took on monsters... but only in the form of the criminal family, the Fratelli's. But the kids in this movie are taking on vampires, a werewolf, frankenstein's monster, a mummy, a fish creature. This awesome 80's movie just takes the cake! So watch the movie & join the club!

The Immortals!

A great heist film, with a twist.

The Immortals
The Immortals

Rated R. Made In 1996.

A night club owner, played by Eric Roberts, gathers a group of petty criminals together(Chris Rock, Joe Pantoliano, Tia Carrere, etc.) & tasks them with stealing suitcases of money. Eric Roberts character has chosen all of them because of one special reason, something they all have in common. A reason that you don't find out until the end. It's a funny, shoot 'em up movie with a special heartfelt theme about life. To live life to the fullest & to not waste time....to go after your dreams now!

This is another great movie, that when I was younger, I picked out at the video store(when they had only vhs, not dvd). I've made some great choices in movie selections in my life.

Watching great movies will always be a highlight of my life. The depth at which I enjoy movies is just a beautiful thing!

Congo

A Suspense Filled, Adventure Movie!

Congo
Congo

Rated PG-13. Made In 1995.

Based on the book by Michael Crichton. The story revolves around a group of people all traveling deep into the heart of the Congo for individual reasons. Their journey becomes increasingly more dangerous as they get closer to their objective. Each searching for generally the same thing. People begin losing their lives & their safeties. I don't want to give anything away if you haven't seen it. I try and steer clear of info on movies because they end up ruining them. This is a great adventure movie to watch. For us guys, it's got motion sensor machine guns! For the girls it's got a cute and cuddly gorilla. It's funny, it's suspenseful, it's enjoyable.

Best of The Best 2

Martial Arts At It's Best! An Underground Fight Club! Need I Say More!

Best of the Best 2
Best of the Best 2

Rated R. Made In 1993.

Another great Eric Roberts movie. Without giving too much away! There's an underground fight club at a Las Vegas casino where only the rich get front row seats and choose whether or not the winner lives or dies. The club is run by a huge gladiator looking guy, who, if a challenger wins against all the other competitors, faces him. Let's just say the two main characters(Eric Roberts & Philip Rhee - who are awesome, by the way) & their families are involved in a fight for their lives. It's a great action, martial arts movie. *This movie also stars the late Chris Penn.

I can remember when I first saw this movie on tv. It was getting late and about halfway through it was my bed time. Thankfully, my mom was across the street playing cards with her friends so I kept watching it and was able to finish it before she got back. I love this movie!

Willow

Magic, Swordfights, Magic, Romance, Comedy, & Magic!

Willow (Special Edition)
Willow (Special Edition)

Rated PG. Made In 1988.

Directed by Ron Howard & written by George Lucas!

It's the story of a farmer(Warwick Davis) who dreams of being a powerful wizard/sorcerer. A baby washes ashore, pretty much on his doorstep. He is then tasked by the elders of his village, to return the baby to it's own people. Along the way he encounters all sorts of problems(especially because of Val Kilmer's character). It's a cool, funny, romantic & magical movie. I highly recommend it!

TimeCop

An Awesome Time Traveling Action Movie!

Timecop
Timecop

Rated R. Made In 1994.

Jean-Claude Van Damme Traveling Through Time & Kicking Butt! That should sell it right there! He plays a time traveling cop who goes back in time to stop ripples that are happening from other people going back and changing things. He stumbles upon a conspiracy and fights to save the future against an evil perpetrator.

It's so cool to see the bad guys bring present day technologies back to the past. Machine guns, music players lol. It's a really smart movie with the past & future meeting. This movie stars the late Ron Silver who did an excellent job!!!

Movies In The Shadows

There are more movies that remain in the dark that still should be seen. Eventually I will add more movies to this list. There are most certainly going to be future movies, ones that haven't even been made yet, that will not get the proper credit either. We just need to bring these movies up to others if we come across them.

Everyone has their own taste & enjoyments in movies. The movie watchers I feel sorry for, are the ones that can't enjoy movies because they have to criticize them and say "That can't happen!". Of course there are elements in movies that can't happen! You think that book you read, when you were 4, about the train engine that could or even the friendly talking creatures on that famous street, named after a bagel flavor(Sesame).....can happen.

You have to remember, movies are adventures. Find your inner child and wake him/her up from their slumber, the sleep they slept while you grew up & forgot to have fun! You have to believe anything is possible. Someday we'll be watching movies in hologram form and we can get up and walk around the scenes and be a part of the movie. The future is bright! So don't let good movies fade to darkness. Give these movies a try if you haven't seen them. If you have seen them before but it's been awhile then hopefully you'll watch them again to relive the memories. Life, after all, is just a collection of memories.......as we travel, in search for more.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen any of these movies except, perhaps, Congo, which I can't remember if I've seen or not, so I guess I need to go rent it and watch it (again)!

One of the first things I bought for my library when I got my job as children's librarian was Willow! Also The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth! The classics.

I consider Willow to be one of my favorite movies.I noticed you have two movies listed with Eric Roberts. I think he is one of the most under appreciated actors and that his sister has been over appreciated.

@DuaneJ: Yeah, I love Congo and it has definitely fallen by the wayside. I mean who doesn't love the idea of motion sensor machine guns and all the tech they had with them, portable handheld air conditioners. Shooting flares at heat seeking missiles. It was awesome! Tim Curry and his diamond rush lol My favorite scene that always sticks out is when they have to pay off the one guy with money so that they can make it where they want to go and he tells Tim Curry to stop eating his sesame seed cake hahahaha!!! Thanks for checking out the list! Glad to see someone else liked that movie too. Best Wishes!

I think I watched Willow years before, I am not sure...it is like the fantasy movie Labyrinth.

I just watched recently the movie Zombieland and I find it really amusing, I wonder why it didn't get that much of attention.

      Thanks for the share.
