Captain Malcolm Reynolds
"We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
Captain Malcolm Reynolds was the gun-slinging, cynical, protective, wise-cracking, thieving, war-hero captain of the ship Serenity, from the well known and well love space cowboy series, Firefly. Firefly was directed by Joss Whedon and unmercifully cut short in it;s prime by Fox, leading to it being immortalised forever in fans' hearts. He was played by Nathon Fillion in both the series and the recent film, Serenity.
Captain Reynolds and 'Serenity' - You can't take the sky from me.... since I found Serenity
see more Very Demotivational
Mal was a sergeant in the 57th Overlanders Brigade, on the side of the Independents at the Battle of Serenity Valley, where the war ended. Afterwards, he found himself a derelict 03-K64 Firefly-class transport sitting in a shipyard, and named it Serenity.
Serenity came to represent his freedom, his last stand, and his independence. Mal fiercely defended his crew, and went to great lengths to keep her flying.

Sergeant Malcolm Reynolds - The Unification War
Mal was one of the Browncoats, who fought for the Independents in the big old war between the independent planets and the Alliance. The Independents lost, and now the whole galaxy celebrates Unification Day... well. Almost the whole galaxy. Mal still manages to always find himself in an Alliance-friendly bar, come Unification Day.
Lund: You know, your coat is kinda a brownish color...
Mal: It was on sale. (calmly sips drink)
Lund: You didn't toast. You know, I'm thinkin' you one of 'em In'e'pen'ents.
Mal: And I'm thinkin' you weren't burdened with an overabundance of schooling. So why don't we just ignore each other until we go away?
Lund: The In'e'pen'ents were a bunch of inbred, cowardly piss-pots. Should've been killed off of every world spinnin'.
Mal: [turns] Say that to my face.
Lund: I said you're a coward and a piss-pot. Now what are you gonna do about it?
Mal: [smiles] Nothing. I just wanted you to face me so she could get behind you.
[Lund turns, and Zoe knocks him out with the butt of her rifle]
Mal: Drunks are so cute.

Mal's Red Shawl
Dear Buddha, please bring me a pony and a plastic rocket...
In the film Serenity Mal sneaks into Inara's Companion Training House to rescue her/spring the trap set by the Operative after River, cunningly disguised in a red shawl. There, he prays to Buddha for a pony and a plastic rocket, before Inara interrupts him.
The Firefly Soundtrack - Mal's music: since he found Serenity...
Joss Whedon wrote the intro song, sung by Sonny Rhodes, which is very much in the theme of Malcolm Reynolds. The music on Firefly is pretty awesome and keeps the Space-Western theme going very well.
take my love
take my land
take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
you can't take the sky from me
take me out
to the black tell 'em I ain't coming back
burn the land
and boil the sea
you can't take the sky from me
have no place
I can be
since I found Serenity
but you can't take the sky from me
(Inara is brushing Kaylee's hair and explaining how Companions choose their clients)
Inara: Physical appearance doesn't matter so terribly. You look for compatibility of spirit. There's an energy about a person that's difficult to hide. You try to feel that--
Mal:(entering Inara's shuttle) And then you try to feel the energy of their credit account, it has a sort of...aura...
Inara: What did I say to you about barging into my shuttle?
Mal:That it was manly and impulsive?
Inara: Yes, precisely. Only the exact phrase I used was, "Don't."
Mal:Well, you're holding my mechanic in thrall. And Kaylee! What the hell is goin' on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?
Mal:I'm not sure you'd be safe.
Inara: Mal, if you're being a gentleman, I may die of shock.
Mal: Hm. (bows and leaves, then reenters) Have you got time to do my hair?
Inara Serra (played by Morena Baccarin) was the Companion who hired out the shuttle of Serenity - throughout the series, her and Mal constantly clashed, and there was a noticiable attraction between them. Sadly, this was never really resolved, due to some cruel bastards cutting the series short.
Inara is the woman in the shiny purple dress, at the front of the group.
Zoe: Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.
Quick, what do you think of Malcolm Reynolds?
