List of The 15 Best Metaphysical Movies

Updated on June 23, 2014

What do I consider to be Metaphysical Movies??

I am always looking for new metaphysical or spiritual movies to watch. I prefer actual movies that have underlining lessons or teachings but I do also have some documentary or education type movies that I always turn to and have watched a countless amount of times.

Here I will provide a list of the best metaphysical movies. These movies are inspiring, motivating and always have some metaphysical idea that you can take away from them.

Metaphysical meaning: of or relating to the transcendent or to a reality beyond what is perceptible to the senses. Which means anything we believe in that is beyond our physical reality. Law of Attraction, Energy Vibrations, God, Source, Universal Intelligence, etc.

The idea that "Your thoughts, create your reality" is considered metaphysical and so much more. These movies have ideas, lessons, or concepts that show or teach you how your thoughts can create your reality. Expand your awareness and be entertained with this list of metaphysical movies.

A little more about the movie "What the bleep do we know!"

What The Bleep Do We Know
What The Bleep Do We Know

I think this is one of the most informative and education metaphysical movies you can watch. It is a documentary but about 20 minutes into the movie it becomes more of a movie with a story to it and actually gets quite funny and interesting. I have watched this movie many times and each time I learn something new and have many new "aha" moments. If you ever had any interest in metaphysics you will walk away after seeing this movie with a lot more knowledge. For people who have never heard or read about these subjects before, it will be absolutely mind blowing. Highly recommended!

Movies have the ability to touch your soul within such a short duration of time.

I don't see the god dam list of movies! Thanks for leaving that out of the article of the "15 movies"!

@Rylee55: Of course if your emphasis is on Prefab Metaphysics, then I guess these would not be for you...

I personally wouldn't even say these are the 15 best, especially when you've left out Fellini's Juliet of the Spirits, Bergman's The Seventh Seal and Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey!!! Some others that are in fact much better than most of what's on this list would be Francis Ford Coppola's Youth Without Youth, Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain, Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Tom Twyker and Andy Wachowski's Cloud Atlas, Alejandro González Iñárritu's Biutiful, Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, Richard Linklater's Waking Life, Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Jaco Van Dormael's Mr. Nobody.

Good list of modern movies, but I think the actual masterpieces in this genre are the earlier movies. Greets, Joebeducci

Fun list of great movies with a little extra behind them. (Except Eat, Pray and Love which I think is fluff.) Pinned to my Movies worth Watching board.

Interesting lens. Although I'm not into metaphysical movies, I have seen a couple that you have listed and thought they were good. I agree with grannysage in that anything with Johnny Depp is worth watching.

I had the same reaction to seeing Avatar. To me it is a spiritual allegory. I've seen most of the other ones on the list as well. I much prefer a thought provoking movie to the shoot em up variety. Although I watch anything with Johnny Depp in it.

I've seen 7 of the ones listed - didn't realize some of them were considered Metaphysical Movies - just 'feel good with a message movies' is what I thought - Maybe I need to watch those again to see what I missed. Great list - can't wait to see the others that I haven't watched yet.

@PaulWSutherland: You are absolutely right, there is no secret. I really like "The Secret" because it is a movie that introduces the world of law of attraction and universal laws to people who have never heard of it. Yes, its very basic and there is SOOOO much more to the law of attraction, but I feel its an excellent introduction to the concept but of course JUST an introduction. Thank you for your support and comments!

Great Lens and I enjoyed adding a few of my favorite movies. A little disappointed that the worst and most misleading movie ever made it on to the page though. I voted it all the way to the bottom of the chart... There is no Secret!

I love the concept of this lens! While I am not a believer in metaphysics in most connotations of the word, I think it makes for some really great filmography in general. I have added the movie The Fountain to your list up above, because this movie really represents metaphysical concepts in such a beautiful and artistic was. Not too often do you ever get to see a good movie touching on reincarnation, Hinduism/Buddhism, and this New Age way of thinking. The fact that some well known actors are in it also makes it easier for people to get into as well. I cannot deny, this film has brought me to tears and I think it will do the same for many others. You should consider writing a few film reviews and touch on what makes them so interesting to people who like metaphysics as well. As a start, this is a good base to work with for a lens. Have a "like" on me!
