Mizushima Hiro was born in Tokyo on 13 April 1984 but his family relocated to Zurich, Switzerland for six years where he attended an International School. His family returned to Japan when he was twelve years old.

Mizushima first appeared on Japanese television in 2005 in the second season of Gokusen. In the same year, he appeared in small roles in Japanese dramas Ame to Yume no Ato ni and the TBS drama Brother Beat.

In 2006, Mizushima played lead character Tendou Souji in the TV series Kamen Rider Kabuto and in the film Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love.

Mizushima then started taking on bigger roles in more popular and high-profile productions, such as the supporting role of girl-crazy Minami Nanba in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e and the lead role of Soshi Asamoto in Zettai Kareshi. Mizushima also provided the voice of Bruce Banner in the Japanese dub of The Incredible Hulk.

Mizushima married Japanese pop singer Ayaka on 22 February 2009. In September of 2010, Mizushima left his talent agency Ken-on to focus on his personal life and pursue a writing career. He released a bestselling novel entitled Kagerou in the same year and it went on to win the 5th Poplar Publishing Grand Prize for Fiction.
