Pierce Brosnan plays a father trying to be a single parent in mid-20th-century Ireland. Based in part on real events, this at times very melodramatic film highlights the inequalities and bigotry of Irish society during those years.

Product Description

From the director of Driving Miss Daisy comes this compelling, heartwarming and inspiring true story of a father (Pierce Brosnan) who faces impossible odds to keep his family together. Times are tough in Dublin, Ireland. But no one has it tougher than Desmond Doyle when his wife runs off and his beloved daughter Evelyn and two young sons are sent to an orphanage by the government.Enlisting the help of loyal friends (Julianna Margulies, Stephen Rea) and a feisty American lawyer (Aidan Quinn), he takes his case to Ireland's Supreme Court in a history-making quest to topple an ironclad law and win back the custody of his children!

Driven by a deep sense of duty and a love for his country, Damien (Cillian Murphy) abandons his burgeoning career as a doctor and joins his brother, Teddy in a dangerous and violent fight for freedom. As the Irish freedom fighters bold tactics bring the British to a breaking point, both sides finally agree to a treaty to end the bloodshed. aaaahhh Daniel Day Lewis. One word... GENIUS. Shame about Liam Neeson, he used to be good. Do you know the name of the Playwright who wrote The One Day of the Year? (Northern Irish play i believe - been trying to find that out for a while - not sure if i have the title right - last internet search yielded nothing.
