Muppet Cover Songs

Updated on November 23, 2014

Muppet Cover Songs

Muppet cover songs have been part of their tradition from their early days on Sesame Street right up to their latest film, "The Muppets" to be released this Thanksgiving. Here are a selection of Muppet cover songs to make you smile while you sing along!

You can get your very own copy of The Great Muppet Caper poster from

Bohemian Rhapsody

There is a reason this Muppet cover song won a Webby. It was a great production from the Muppets launched on their YouTube channel. When I first heard about this Muppet cover song, I wondered how they were going to address the murderous lyrics. Leave it to Animal to solve that problem.

The second video is a behind the scenes look at the making of the Muppets version of "Bohemian Rhapsody".

The Muppets Go Classical

I had no idea how great a job Beaker does with classical songs until his version of "Ode To Joy" was released by Muppet Studios on YouTube. Camilla the Chicken isn't bad herself.

Beaker's Ballad - Is He Died?

Yes, I realize I am very easily amused, but this cracked me up to no end. Poor, poor Beaker.

Christmas Muppet Cover Songs

There are so many great Christmas songs covered by the Muppets this is in no way complete. I do have a soft spot for "We Need A Little Christmas", which is the first thing featured on "A Muppet Family Christmas". Miss Piggy's cover of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is one of my favorite versions of the song.

Muppet Cover Songs From The Muppet Show

"The Muppet Show" debuted on CBS in 1979 and ran until 1981. It was a variety show set in a live theater and featured a weekly guest star among the chaos we expect from the Muppets. Here are a few of my favorite Muppet cover songs featured on "The Muppet Show".

Muppet Cover Songs - Great Idea Or Awful Idea?

Do you like Muppet cover songs?

She Drives Me Crazy

I strongly dislike the original version by Fine Young Cannibals. Strongly. This is included more for the bizarre assortment of circa 90s celebrity cameos than anything else. Watching it made me feel old and like I should either perm or tease my hair.

Did Casey Kasem ever do a duet with William Shatner?

Muppet Cover Songs Nearly Ruined By Fozzie Bear

Poor Fozzie Bear. Remembering song lyrics is hard, especially when you aren't singing the whole time.

Fozzie may have more rhythm than I do, too.

Muppet Cover Songs From Muppets Tonight

"Muppets Tonight" aired on ABC in 1996, was cancelled that year, and moved over to the Disney Channel to complete its run in 1998. "Muppets Tonight" had a similar variety show type format to "The Muppet Show", except "Muppets Tonight" was set in a television studio and not a live theater.

Here are a couple Muppet cover songs that were featured on the show "Muppets Tonight".

Mahna Mahna - do do do do do

The song Muppet fans lovingly know as "Mahna Mahna" is in fact a Muppet cover song. The original song is titled "Mah Na Mah Na" and performed by Italian Piero Umiliani. It was originally featured in the Italian mondo documentary film, "Svezia, Inferno E Paradiso".

You can see the original Sesame Street version of "Mahna Mahna" here. I've included the original version of "Mah Na Mah Na" here so you can listen and compare to the version from "The Muppet Show".

More Music From The Muppets!

You know your music collection is greatly lacking in Muppet music. Why not correct that glaring error?

My boyfriend just gave me the first season of Saturday Night Live - the muppets were a blast in the early days of that show. Cracking me up rewatching them.

I used to love the Muppet show, although a bit too old really. But how can you resist Mahna Mahna? My brother used to do a great imitation of it!
