Muppet Songs Covered By Famous Musicians

Updated on November 26, 2014

Muppet Songs Covered By Other Artists

I previously tackled the subject of cover songs performed by the Muppets, so it was inevitable I discuss the flip side of the coin and address Muppet song covers. Most recently, a Muppets tribute album, "The Green Album" was released in anticipation of the release of the feature film, "The Muppets".

Here is a look at some of the best cover versions of Muppet songs.

Image is the cover art for "The Green Album", which you can read more about here.

The Rainbow Connection - Performed By The Carpenters

This Muppet song cover by the Carpenters was an unfinished demo track that was only released in 2001. The instrument choices are a touch odd, but this is likely due to the fact the track was intended as purely a demo for a recording that ended up never being finished.

The Rainbow Connection - Performed By The Brothers Cazimero

The Brothers Cazimero released this Hawaiian cover of "The Rainbow Connection" around the time of "The Muppet Movie" and it brings back many childhood memories of Hawaii.

More Covers Of Rainbow Connection

These are the musicians behind these cover versions of "Rainbow Connection". They are all rather traditional interpretations with the exception of the cover version by punk cover band Me First & the Gimme Gimmes.

Kenny Loggins

Willie Nelson

Jason Mraz

Sarah McLachlan

Mahna Mahna - Performed By Cake

The "Mahna Mahna" song from the Muppets has quite possibly become one of their most sought songs in recent years. This Muppet song cover of "Mahna Mahna" is performed by Sacramento alt-rockers Cake.

Bein' Green - Performed By Ray Charles

I love this version of "Bein' Green" by Ray Charles. It expresses the sadness and hope of the lyrics so well. I've also included a look at Ray Charles duet of "Bein' Green" with Kermit the Frog from "Sesame Street".

More Covers Of "Bein' Green"

Here are some more cover versions of "Bein' Green". The Andrew Bird version is featured on the new Muppets tribute album, "The Green Album".

Rubber Duckie - Performed By Little Richard

This might be my new favorite Muppet song cover. I appreciate the added touch of having Little Richard perform "Rubber Duckie" in a bathtub at the piano.

Sesame Street Theme Song Covers

Here are two cover versions of the Sesame Street theme song. I remember the first time I heard the techno/rave version "Sesame's Treet" by smart e and I thought it was great even though I'm not the hugest fan of rave music. The other cover of the theme song for Sesame Street I've featured is performed by singer/songwriter Joshua Radin.

The Muppet Show Theme Song - Performed By OK Go & The Muppets

This was the lead off single for the recent album of covers of Muppet songs, "The Green Album". The ending of this music video was a bit long for me, but that doesn't change my feelings towards this cover song.
