Music for Pre-schoolers: Yo Gabba Gabba

Updated on February 9, 2014

Weird Wacky Show Brings Music and Fun to Kids

Retro looking Nick Jr show Yo Gabba Gabba features a different musical group in each episode and introduces kids to rock music. The music videos shared on this kids show can be enjoyed by parents and kids. Plus the songs featured on this show are kid friendly, so you do not have to worry that your child will hear cursing or questionable song lyrics, as often found on pop radio. Almost like children's shows from the '60's with characters composed of bright colours, and hosted by a guy (DJ Lance) who carries the Gabba gang in his magical boom box. The retro elements, and contemporary bands also make it fun for parents to watch too. You may even hear or see some musicians that you already know and like.

Retro Musical show with Music Parents can also enjoy

I don't who likes the show more....me or my son? I like the fact that classic musicians, such as Mark Mothersbaugh (from Devo) have a regular feature on the show. He does a drawing segment that teaches kids how to draw basic things. Also Biz Markie, who was famous for his "just a Friend" song also has his own segment called Biz's Beats. This and original songs that teach kids basic things, such as not hurting friends( don't bite your friends), and not playing in the road are just a few examples of why this show is so great. I also think that it is a great way to introduce kids to child friendly musicians that their parents may also want to listen to, such as Weezer, The Flaming Lips, and Weird Al. All of these elements combined with the story telling and bright colours make for a good wholesome experience that the whole family can watch. Great music suggestions for pre-schoolers to experience contemporary music that the whole family will enjoy listening to.

Who's Your Favorite Gabba Gang Member?

Each character from this show is bright, colorful, and has their own unique personality that kids can relate and love. My son loves Brobee. Which is your child's favorite?

My son loved this toothbrush. For awhile there it was the only way to get him to brush his teeth. Plus song playing toothbrushes were new at this time, and this was a very exciting product.

@anonymous: My youngest boy loves music, and this is the perfect show for him, and plus we love it for the retro feel of it. Not to mention the good social stories that they teach children about interacting with others and their environment.
