My List of Great Movies

Updated on February 1, 2015

Here is a list of some good and great movies

These are some of my favorite movies from science fiction to comedy to drama and more. Not all of the are great, but I like them. There are a lot of reasons why movies are successful. Talent is key but also of importance is setting and story. I find that if I like a particular actor, like Al Pacino, I am rarely disappointed with movies that he is in. A good measure of a movie is whether it can be considered great even a long time after it was released. I'm thinking of "Gone With the Wind". It is timeless. Not all of the movies on my list are timeless, but some of them are.

10 Great Movies - Your chance to pick

Here is a poll allowing you to pick which of these movies you like the best. After the poll, you can see details for each one. Whether you agree that these are great or not, you should try to watch them. These are quite popular films. As a result, much of the plot is now part of the general knowledge. If you don't watch, you will miss out on popular jokes or themes that enter society from these movies.

Which is your favorite movie?

See results

Braveheart - A classic epic about Scottish history

This is a great movie. It has passion, action, comedy, scenery and more. And history. And suspense. What doesn't it have? A great, timeless movie.

Back to the Future - Time travel is possible

I love the comedy and action in this series. I could watch it anytime.

Star Trek - Over 40 years of mainstream science fiction

Very popular science fiction movies. William Shatner literally changed the world. Mr. Spock makes being a geek cool. Scotty can do anything. What about Captain Pickard? Sauve!

Pretty Woman - A very popular movie

Julia Roberts is awesome. Richard Gere is fantastic. This is a great date night film for any couple to watch. It has the elements of comedy, suspense, drama, and surprise. Even the background music is fun!

The Bourne Identity - Awesome spy thriller movies

Great movies. The original with Richard Chamberlain was excellent and the new ones with Matt Damon are even better. The genre has become a little diluted. One movie was even made without Matt. While it was exciting, it was not of the same high caliber as the originals. For the true Bourne experience, only those with Richard Chamerlain or Matt Damon fit the bill.

Star Wars - Episodes 3 - 5

This was a fabulous movie in 1977. They repeated the magic with two more in the original trilogy. Many people have still only watched the early movies. Production is now underway for the seventh, and more are planned as well. This is quite a franchise.

What great movies are on your list? - Comedy, drama, science-fiction, others?

Some great movies listed here. I am more of a fan of the classics but I guess as I get older many of the films I saw in my earlier years are already becoming classics! :)

I actually liked "The Bourne Ultimatum" from the Trilogy, but it was not on your list above. I would have chosen it above "Gone With The Wind".
