Old Spice vs Hai Karate

Updated on April 4, 2013

Which Ad Campaign do You Prefer? Old Spice or Hai Karate?

I'm a huge fan of the Old Spice commercials. I even made a lens with all of my favorite Old Spice commercials on it. One of the visitors to that lens asked me to do a Hai Karate lens. I had never heard of Hai Karate before, so I had to do a little research.

I discovered that Hai Karate was a men's fragrance line that was popular in the 1960's to the 1980's and made items such as cologne, after shave, soap on a rope, etc. Old Spice had similar items. Both, Old Spice and Hai Karate were affordably priced and had similar commercials which depicted an average, some what awkward man who drove women wild with his cologne. So, I found myself wondering why Old Spice lasted and Hai Karate did not.
