On The Beach
Stanley Kramer's 1959 Film - On the Beach
On the Beach (1959) is one of my absolutely favorite films.
This adaptation of British novelist Nevil Shute's 1957 novel On the Beach directed by Stanley Kramer, is poignant and sad, yet a beautiful love story, on many levels, too. It is set during the aftermath of an accidental nuclear war.
This film has made me cry numerous times. Its excellent cast stars:
Gregory Peck as Captain Dwight Lionel Towers of the USS Swordfish
Ava Gardner as Moira Davidson
Fred Astaire as Julian Osborne, the scientist
Anthony Perkins as Lieutenant Peter Holmes of the Royal Australian Navy
And let's not forget the wonderful musical score by Ernest Gold!

Would You Take the Pill? - A Very Very Difficult Question
During the film, supplies of pills are readied for the population. They make one's personal end more bearable than dying from the horrible radiation sickness.
