Only You Movie with Robert Downey Jr
Light Hearted and Charismatic Rom-Com
One of my favorite romcoms is the movie Only You which features the very suave Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei in the starring roles. Although most people would describe it as a romantic comedy, it's not a laugh out loud funny film as with something in the vein of Notting Hill but more of a sweet, gentle and light-hearted humor like you have with You've Got Mail.
Despite the gentle pacing, this movie belongs in my favorites collection and is certainly one that I keep coming back to watch - so clearly it really has something that's magnetic about pulling me in to view it over and over again. I think part of the magnetism is really liking the characters and feeling some charisma between the lead characters as well as the supporting roles. If you haven't yet seen it, you should give it a try.
Faith, Fate and Destiny - Wrapped up in a Fun, Slightly Cheesy but Feel Good Plot
This is a romantic movie which is all about fate and destiny. Faith (played by Marisa) has been convinced from a few key childhood experiences that 'The One' the man of her dreams is called Damon Bradley. She believes this guy is actually out there somewhere and that he will complete her as her soul mate.
Along the way into adulthood, her belief gets lost and shaken a little as practicalities and aging kick in and she finds herself about to walk down the aisle with someone else.
Without giving too much of the actual story away, Faith finds herself off on a rather impromptu adventure as a last ditch attempt to find her Damon Bradley. Does she actually find him? Will she end up with the right guy? And how does Robert Downey Jr figure in all of this? You'll find out if you watch it yourself!
It's definitely a fun movie to sit back, relax and watch. The whole feel of romance is aided by much of the movie being located in Italy which gives it some really lush and gorgeous scenery. So the location really helps to give it that warm, fuzzy and romantic vibe.

More Reasons to Watch this Movie
And what of the leading men? Well Robert Downey is just too easy to fall in love with on screen and there's definitely some chemistry there between him and Marisa. I also love the cameo performance by Billy Zane which is pretty funny and I can't help laughing every time - check out the tan, abs and that horrendous wig! And there is also a very hunky 'Italian' called Giovanni played by Joaquim de Almeida. Yes, I could watch this for the starring men alone.
But the story, although a bit of a mad-cap and slightly unrealistic adventure, is just the kind of light and warm watch that you can sit back and relax to and get that really feel-good factor with at the end. I happen to prefer movies with happy endings and this one is very sweet. I hope you've enjoyed reading this hub today, thanks for your visit.
Some More Favorite Romance Watches I Recommend
I do enjoy watching this type of content and here are a few others which are also slow paced rom coms that I can recommend.
Serendipity is about two soul mates who are separated only a short time together. Will they make it back to each other or will real life keep getting in the way? John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale are certainly a perfect on-screen match.
While You Were Sleeping. This is such a wonderful romance. Two people who really shouldn't be together at all except that fate plays a hand and forces them to pair up for a while. But will it last?
It's got a pretty good Michael Bolton song at the end of this film too so ends on just the right note. Listen to "Once in a Lifetime" below.
Enjoy This Right at the End
