Peace Love and Misunderstanding Soundtrack Features Jeffrey Dean Morgan Singing "The Weight" by The Band

Updated on April 5, 2013

1960s Music Featured in the Movie

Ever since Jeffrey Dean Morgan charmed us with his Irish lilt singing "Galway Girl" in P.S. I Love You it's great to hear he dusted off his musical skills to sing "The Weight" with Catherine Keener on the Peace Love and Misunderstanding Soundtrack albeit with much trepidation.

For this small indie film, I haven't seen any official soundtrack that's being released. However, "None the Wiser" by Dorie Colangelo's 2008 debut album is a lovely song that's been included on the Peace Love and Misunderstanding Soundtrack List. It's available as an individual song download.

If you've seen the Jane Fonda helmed movie and remember some of the songs and the scenes they appeared in, please leave a note in the guestbook below. The other song that's got me completely stumped is the contemporary pop sounding folk song in the movie's trailer with the lyrics "you gotta turn it around, baby when it all comes down, get your feet back on the ground." So if you know it, please clue us in.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I enjoyed Catherine Keener in The 40 Year Old Virgin and ever since Jeffrey Dean Morgan broke our hearts falling in love with Grey's Anatomy, I wish we'd see him in more romantic comedies. The delightful Elizabeth Olsen plays opposite the handsome Chace Crawford. And Jane Fonda plays the effervescent, quirky Earth Mother in Peace, Love and Misunderstanding which jumpstarts 2012's Summer of Love on June 8, 2012.

"The Weight" by The Band - Cover Sung by Jeffrey Dean Morgan & Catherine Keener

In this interview clip for Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan sheepishly admits to attempting to sing "The Weight" and how he did everything he could to convince director Bruce Beresford to forego the singing sing or to loop his character's singing. The harmonies by The Band are legendary and tricky for even the most talented musician so it's no wonder Morgan was intimidated.

A relative unknown, Spencer David Hutchings who wrote and performed the song "Souvenir" on the Higher Ground Soundtrack composed music for the movie Peace, Love and Misunderstanding.

Being On Our Own by the Fruit Bats from the album The Ruminant Band is the catchy song in the beginning of the movie. It is available on Rhapsody. Great song and this is the version and artist that was featured in this movie. I was curious too and had to find it!
