Protect the Boss - Korean Drama 2011

Updated on September 22, 2014

Another romantic-comedy Korean Drama, Protect the Boss or previously rumored titled The Last Secretary was aired starting from August 3, 2011 - replacing SBS's top Korean Drama, City Hunter.

At first, I was intrigued with this drama as it kept changing its title's name. I never watch the two leading actors' (Choi Kang Hee & Ji Sung) dramas so I was hesitant to add this drama into my next drama watch-list. But I changed my mind after I read the news that JYJ's Kim Jae Joong has been cast in this drama. I started to dig more information about this drama and I like its storyline which evolves around office & family politics.

Protect the Boss First Episode was more than I was expected, it was totally amazingly funny! All the actors portray their characters brilliantly! And the ending was perfect =)

Protect the Boss - Brief Synopsis

Protect the boss portrays a complicated story of four main characters: No Eun Seol, Cha Ji Hun, Cha Mu Won and Seo Na Yun

No Eun Seol (the hero of this drama) has had hard time in finding employment until she got a job as Cha Ji Hun's secretary. Cha Ji Hun is an immature boss of a mega-company (DN Group) and he usually reads manga / novel instead of working. He is irresponsible and I can't wait to see the girl power Eun Seol brings to rescue Ji Hun from his immaturity and to help him to grow up!

Mu Won is Ji Hun's cousin who has amazing business abilities combined with excellent leadership skills and is called the Prince of the Finance.. He is eyeing Ji Hun's position and is secretly trying to take away Ji Hun's position. To keep an eye of his cousin's daily activity, Mu Won hired Eun Seol to be Ji Hun's secretary.

Eun Seol's position as Ji Hun's secretary will be challenged by Yang Ha Young who works as Mu Won's perfectionist secretary! Ha Young was graduated from one of Korea's top university and is fluent to speak in four languages. She does all her secretary works in a flash, making all other secretaries (including Eun Seol) pale in comparison.

What smart tricks will Mu Won do to throw Ji Hun from his position?

What will Eun Seol do to be the perfect secretary for Ji Hun? And what can she learn from her perfectionist sunbae (Ha Young)?

No Eun Seol (Choi Kang Hee) was struggling to find an employment until one day she's employed in a mega-lawyer organization, as secretary to immature boss, Cha Ji Hun. Obviously, as she's working for him, she starts to fall for him and will do her best assisting Ji Hun to grow up from his immature acts.

Eun Seol is extremely talented in fighting and protecting herself =)

Cha Ji Hun (Ji Sung) is the youngest son of a powerful businessman Cha Bong Man and is the Chief Financial Officer of a mega-company. An immature rebellious person who needs someone (secretary) who can protect him and take him to the right life direction! He reads manga / novel at work and the only things in his work desk are manga books!

He suffers from neurophysiology disorder / panic attack disorder which is the main reason why he acts like a childish immature person.

Cha Bong Man (Ji Hun's father) who believes in him and his capabilities appointed him to be his successor even though he is aware that he might lose his company because of his son. Bong Man had immature behavior like his son when he was young and when his company was handed over to him, lots of people doubted him. But he managed to lead the company to achieve more success and after 25 years, he decided that it's time to appoint his son as his successor.

With Eun Seol help, Ji Hun tries his best not to disappoint his father and work extra harder to overcome his disorder.

He knows that the company belong to Ji Hun and is doing everything he can to steal it from his immature rebellious cousin.

Seo Na Yun (Wang Ji Hye) has a long history with Ji Hun few years earlier. After she left, Ji Hun started having panic attack and now she's back as a perfectionist advertising director.

Her mother has arranged her marriage with Cha Mu Won even though she's in love with Cha Ji Hun.

Lee Hee Won (Yang Ha Young) is Mu Won's perfect secretary and it looks like she will fall in love with Mu Won!

Protect the Boss Extended from 16 to 18 Episodes

I'm so excited hearing the news that SBS has extended Protect the Boss to 18 Episodes. This is brief translation of the news:

"Following SBS decision to extend Warrior Baek Dong Soo, on 9 September 2011 SBS has also decided to extend Protect the Boss broadcast. Drama main character's romance with chaebol has secured their place for the viewers. Even though its rating is lower compared with the concurrent drama KBS2 "The Princess' Man" however the character developments which are loved by the viewers made them deciding that Protect the Boss which originally has 16 episodes, be extended by two episodes to 18 episodes.

Actually I watched this drama because it will be funny drama in the beginning episode.. but in the middle episode, it was not really attractive and interesting story. almost like secret garden. but i recommended this drama. I give 7 point from 10. The OST songs are lovely. I really learned much about Panic attack disorder.
