Find Out Why Psych is my Favorite Guilty Pleasure

The TV in my house is always on, but I'm often not watching. In fact, I think I enjoy the noise of the television in the background more than I actually like the shows that are on the TV. However, every once in a while, I run across a TV program that grabs my attention and makes me want to watch it. One of my favorite TV shows is Psych. Psych is truly one of my guilty pleasures. I will proudly admit that I have seen every Psych episode from 2006 to 2014. In total, there were eight seasons, and I never missed one. Sadly, Psych aired its series' finale on March 26, 2014, but that doesn't mean I can't still enjoy the hilarious antics of Shawn (James Roday), the fake psychic detective, and his emotional, super-sniffing, sidekick, Gus (Dule Hill).

Psych's Final Season

When Psych announced their finale season, I'll admit, I was super bummed. I loved the characters on the show and really wanted to see Jules (Maggie Lawson) and Shawn get married before the series ended. Sometimes, shows stay on the air too long. For example, I love Castle on ABC, but I won't be sad when the show decides to end. In reality, it has been on too long and isn't interesting anymore. For this reason, I am glad Psych ended while it was still on top. The weeks leading up to the series finale were filled with excitement and lots of interaction between the stars of the show and its followers, kindly referred to as Psych-Os. To top it all off, the series finale did not disappoint, unlike some of my other favorite TV shows such as The Sopranos and Desperate Housewives, which left me totally unsatisfied and a bit angry with their series' finales.

The Series Finale of Psych

The series finale of Psych was titled Break-Up, which had me worrying that Shawn would break up with Jules. As any Psych-O will tell you, Jules is the jelly to Shawn's peanut butter and the only thing in the world that keeps him grounded. I truly hoped that the finale wouldn't end that way. However, I wasn't prepared for who Shawn would actually break up with. I won't give it away here, but I'll give you a clue. Shawn and Gus have one of the most famous bromances on TV, and it would be a tearjerker to see these lifelong best friends part ways. To find out exactly how the series ends, you will have to watch it yourself. If you are a true Psych-O, like me, you have probably seen the series finale a million times, but if you aren't yet a Psych-O, I suggest you start from the very beginning at season one. To truly appreciate the genius of this television show and the passionate, sometimes hilarious interpersonal relationships, featured on the show, you really have to start from the beginning. If you are looking for your next great TV series, you should consider Psych. I bet after just a couple episodes, this hysterical sitcom will be your guilty pleasure too.

This is my daughter who is as big a Psych fan as I am. In this video, she makes her best Burton Guster sad faces.

Wondering what will happen after Season 8. Check out this James Roday interview.
