The ghosts of the Queen Mary

Updated on January 24, 2012

Media, History and More on the Ghosts Said To Haunt The Queen Mary

I was surprised to find this lens in my collection: looks like my son was up to lensmaking again!

My son Liam stayed on the RMS Queen Mary in April 2008 with his grandparents. The Queen Mary is said to be one of the most haunted places in America. Liam has been intrigued with this idea ever since staying aboard the permanently-docked ship in Long Beach, California. Here is some information he has collected about the ghosts that are said to haunt the Queen Mary.

ghost-Queen Mary ghost - shows two haunted areas on the Queen Mary and has some stories to go with them.

Queen Mary Memorobilia - For Sale on eBay

You'll come across some interesting bits and bobs from the Queen Mary on sale on eBay from time to time. What's currently being auctioned?

There are so many ghosts on board, I don't know where to start!!!

_____________________

Intelligent ghosts* that I know of(starting from stories from the bowels of the ship working up):

The ghost of John Pedder, haunts watertight door number 13.

The ghost of Jacqueline "Jackie", haunts the First Class swimming pool, the now-gutted Third Class nursery, and the Second Class pool, now the Queen Mary movie theater.

____________________

Residual ghosts+(starting from the bowels of the ship, working the way up):

The ghosts of two guards and countless German prisoners from the forward storage room, their voices still heard.

Countless amounts of ghosts in the First Class pool.

The ghost of a lady in white, haunts the Queen's Salon, originally the First Class lounge.

The ghost of a floating lady, haunts stateroom A025.

The ghost of a man in a 1930s suit, haunts staerooms A008-A022.

______________________

Angry ghosts#(starting from the bowels of the ship, working the way up):

The ghost of John Henry-Hank, haunts the green room.

An anonymous psychopath, haunts room B340.

__________________

Recurring ghosts**(starting from the bowels of the ship, working up):

The ghost of John Pedder, haunts watertight door number 13.

The ghosts of the collision with the Curacoa, also the prisoners held there, and the dead crewmen from the Curacoa, all haunt the forward storage room.

An anonymous psychopath, haunts room B340.

_______________________

*intelligent ghosts are interactive and still have minds.

+residual ghosts are ghosts that are unaware of the things around them, and never interact with people.

#angry ghosts are ghosts that did bad things in their life, and scare or harm people or animals.

**recurring ghosts are ghosts that are stuck in a time warp ,so they can only constantly reenact the way they died.

how these ghosts died

In order of the timeline:

April, 1937, 23rd voyage, a deranged man was placed in room B340 as a punishment for harassing his family. Because room B340 was the smallest and least appealing room on the ship, the room was used as a temporary brig. Later that night, the deranged man's family visited him. The man was outraged and killed his 5-year-old daughter, and they now haunt the ship.

June, 1937, The Queen Mary was following her escort ship, the Curacoa, when The Queen Mary's propellors dragged The Curacoa into her path, and because of the captain's no-stopping orders, 338 men drowned. You can still hear their screams in the forward storage room.

June 31, 1966, The Queen Mary's 1000th voyage, during a routine fire drill, 18-year-old John Pedder was playing chicken with a closing watertight door. All of a sudden, he was crushed in half by 50,000 pounds of pressure from the door. How many times did he get in and out of the door? Six and a half. The original door 13 was removed and scrapped, but the new door is still haunted. You can hear screams, hear the door closing when it's not, and see John himself walking around D-deck.

Deaths whose dates were not recorded:

_____________________________________

the death of Jacqueline "Jackie". She drowned in the second class pool, and haunts many locations.

The cold-blooded murder in locker room box 20, said to be one of the causes of the paranormal "vortex".

Is The Queen Mary Haunted?

If you think that the haunting of the Queen Mary is fake, think again! I admit, the effects for room B340 showed the room in a blur, and the splashing in the pool was also fake, but the footprints were not! They have a live webcam there, so the footprints were not fake. Other effects were bulkhead 13 closing, the lightning through the bridge porthole, the bubbles in front of the propeller, the haze, and the newspaper. The rest is actual pictures being zoomed in on.

Berth B340 on the Queen Mary is supposedly haunted. B340 is bigger than it originally was because the wall dividing room B338 and room B340 was removed. When the Queen Mary became a hotel, visitors kept sending complaints about sleeping in room B340. They were woken up in the middle of the night while experiencing the light turning on and off, the sink turning on and off, coat hangers floating above their heads, and bedspreads undoing themselves. The Queen Mary staff decided to not rent this haunted berth to the public. It is, however, still used for research by paranormal experts.

Another haunted area of the Queen Mary is the 1st Class Swimming Pool. The 1st class swimming pool is mainly haunted by ghosts that just didn't want to leave. One guest, who drowned in the 2nd class pool (now a theater) is interactive with the public. She can be heard by ordinary people visiting the ship. Her name is Jaqueline, and her voice can be loudly heard. All she does though is moans or screams.

The "vortex" of the Queen Mary haunting is in the locker rooms. A picture of the locker room in one of the films below shows pipes on the ceiling and a man and woman smiling at the camera. The supposed cause of this paranormal "vortex" was a 32-year-old woman murdered in locker room 20.

As a guest of the Queen Mary hotel and a tour participant, my opinion is extremely haunted.

"Haunted Queen Mary" - SCARY!!!

My "ghostly" experiences on the Queen Mary

- by Liam Schofield (aged 10)

On my spring vacation, I was sitting in the same restaurant seat shown at the start of this movie clip! It was at Promenade Cafe(on the promenade deck of the ship of course, overlooking Long Beach) When I saw this video I was freaked! On my tour through the 1st class swimming pool I felt like I got hugged by a little girl called Jackie! It felt like my legs were dipped in liquid nitrogen for a couple seconds!

The Promenade Cafe and the 1st Class Swimming Pool are really haunted!!!

I was walking in the engine room not yet knowing the story of John Henry. I was peering into the dark areas and saying hello, trying to get a response. When to my amazement as I leaned over a railing something physically tugged at my shirt pocket containing my tour tickets. I immediately looked down at my shirt to see the whole left side of my shirt move. My wife saw my reaction and thought I lost my tickets. I told her what happened and we just took off out of there as fast as we could.

Great lens:) I have been on Queen Mary myself (2010). I didn't see or feel anything, but I am a true believer. I have also been to the Whaley House in Old Town San Diego but no luck here either. I would love to see a ghost some day.

My family and I took one of the tours that went to the 1st class pool. We went back late at night to see if we could find another entrance to it. The door that we exited out of after the tour from the pool was of course locked. however, we stumbled upon a family who knew how to get into the pool through a storage room. The storage room is on the same floor as the exit door they use on the tour.Surprisingly, the storage room door was unlocked and the door that led to the hallway that the pool was off of was unlocked, too. It was extremely spooky sitting in the pool room with out a tour guide or a bunch of people. We all went into the locker room and nothing out of the ordinary happened. When we walked out of the locker room we saw a lady in an old fashioned dress, standing on the staircase looking down at us.Needless to say, I definitely ran back out of there.

I was a tour guide on the ship in the 90's. I never really believed the "Ghost Stories" until I had a strange experience happen in the swimming pool. I was walking my tour down the steps of the pool to go to the boiler room (which is the last stop on the tour) and there were wet footprints on the stairs and a pool of water near the pool (the pool had no water in it). I told my tour about the stories, we went to the boiler room and then I ended the tour. I went back into the pool area about 10 minutes later and all the water was gone!! There was no way for it to dry up and even if someone had mopped it up, it still would have been damp because of how porous the floor is. It made a believer out of me!!

@anonymous: aaaaactually, when the ship was converted into a hotel, the boilers supporting the weight of the pool were removed. Even still, for a short time, the pool was filled up and publicly accessed. (the tour guide I met on the QM told me this) the pool nearly burst because there was nothing supporting the weight, the pool was drained and shut down. It also didn't meet safety standards because it was too deep (14 feet to be exact). I have proof of this. Look at the video above. When it comes to the pool part, you will see cracks in the side.

[in reply to IggyKoopa] Uuuuumm... Oh, yeah. On the last night I stayed there, I got separated from my grandpa and was wandering around "B" deck for 10 minutes looking for a way up. It was midnight when I was looking for our stateroom so I could call my grandpa via his cell phone. I walked past the Queen's Salon and saw a woman in white dancing around through the corner of my eye. For those who don't know this, the Queen's Salon is on the promenade deck, just above "A" deck where my stateroom was. I went up too many stairs and I was half asleep. Another time was when I took the elevator down to "R" deck too see the pool with my grandparents. When we took the elevator back up, we pressed the "A" button but it stopped on "B" deck. We thought someone was coming in when the door opened, but no one was there. around the corner was the haunted room "B340" and we saw that before the door closed. The elevator went up, but then back down, and opened at "B" deck again. True stories.

[in reply to zoozoo] If the pool is full Jackie can haunt a different location! Doesn't it say that in the story above!? ''The ghost of Jacqueline "Jackie", haunts the First Class swimming pool, the now-gutted Third Class nursery, and the Second Class pool, now the Queen Mary movie theater.''

Jackie drowned in the second class pool, and haunts many locations. ''MANY LOCATIONS'' being the key word!

[in reply to Iggy Koopa]i bet the pool is empty because 1: it is huanted 2: every person on that ship knows a girl died in there so they want her to R.I.P (Rest In Pease)because do you want to swim in a haunted pool and i bet jackie will never walk in water that she drown in so no-one will know whare the heck she went in the ship because she will problebly never go near it again if the water is in there so did you get allll that?

I was duty manager on the Queen Mary for Disney, before they gave her back to Long Beach. The only really scary thing was the closet sized elevator to the administrative offices - it would shudder, stop, drop a bit then shudder up some more, a true adventure. most people took the stairs.

Fact update. The Queen Mary collided with her escort cruiser the Curacoa on 2nd October 1942

whilst carrying out zigzag manoeuvering to avoid the enemy (The Queen Mary's top speed was 28 knots but the Curacoa was only 26 knots) My wifes uncle was one of the unfortunate casualties of that tragedy.

      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

      December 2008

      The proof is finally here!!

NEW RECORDED EVIDENCE of "Jackie" the Queen Mary talking ghost child is now available for review at parainvestigations.com!! View discussions and hear the actual audio clip in its 15 minute entirety that has received over 5,000 hits the first day of content posting.

Bob Davis, CEO of Planet Paranormal Broadcast Network and Planet Paranormal Investigations at parainvestigations.com, presents evidence that he and investigative teammate Brian Clune captured of "Jackie" the talking ghost child in the pool area of the Queen Mary during the ship’s Paranormal Retreat in December 2008; on two separate audio recorders. Note: This is not an EVP, it is an actual conversation that lasted over 15 minutes with a disembodied child entity!

If you are a fan of the paranormal, you do not want to miss this amazing evidence!! Not since the famed televised communication of world renown psychic and paranormal investigator Peter James has Jackie's vocalization been so pronounced. The child's voice on the recording is IDENTICAL to the one James communicated with nearly twenty years ago!

Further, four separate governmental sources are cross-analyzing the recorded evidence; including, audio experts within the FBI and Secret Service. Essentially, the recent vocalization of the child entity will be examined for similarities with Peter James’ communication with Jackie that was broadcast globally on the FOX hit prime time series “Sightings” in 1991. If evidence is revealed that the child voices match, it will be the most compelling scientifically verified documentation of paranormal activity ever released to the world!

To hear the audio please visit parainvestigations.com under the audio evidence or news section. Please use headphones for best results and be among the first to review this historic evidence...If anyone in the Scientific community wishes to analyze this audio and try to match it to the Peter James audio or do any other analysis of the audio. Mr. Davis welcomes you to contact him at planetparanormal@earthlink.net
