Disney's Ratatouille Food & Movie Review

Updated on September 25, 2014

Simply Put, Ratatouille Movie Food Is Delicious

Have you seen Ratatouille? If you have, you know exactly how delicious the Ratatouille movie food is. If you haven't, you're in for a treat on this page as I share some information about the food in this movie with you. The food not only looks delicious but it smells delicious, too. It actually manages to look REAL thanks to the talented people behind the scenes at Disney/Pixar.

On this page, you will find information about the food from Ratatouille and the people behind the scenes in the form of three interesting YouTube videos plus you will also find some of the 'must-have' equipment the talented chefs in the movie used along with a selection of wonderful Ratatouille movie posters and a Ratatouille blu-ray movie review.

I hope you enjoy your visit and are inspired to check out the movie if you haven't already seen it.

"A comedy with great taste."

The Ratatouille Story and the Movie Trailer

Meet Remy, a rat who dreams of becoming a famous chef despite the fact that his family would rather he stay where he is safe and eat garbage, like all rats do. His adventure, in the movie , takes you into a Gusteau's, a gourmet five-star restaurant run by his hero of culinary fame, Auguste Gusteau.

When Remy finds himself at the restaurant, he joins forces with Linguini, the garbage boy who quickly discovers that this little rat is talented. Remy and Linguini make a bargain which sees Remy cooking in the kitchen. Eventually, Remy has to decide between his dreams or his existence as a rat. Along the way, he learns much about family, friendship and being who you are.

Ratatouille features a realistic working French kitchen with top-quality kitchen tools that seem too real.

Good Knives, An Investment in Remy's Culinary Future

This Wusthof Set A Great Starter Set

"This is the set to buy if you want to start a knife collection properly or replace so-so tools with the best cutters available. They're hand-forged from a single piece of stainless steel for maximum strength; the hand-polished blades are exactingly calibrated to be hard enough to resist dulling yet soft enough to take a keen edge when they're honed or sharpened. They will provide a lifetime of low-maintenance cutting to the cook." ~~ Arthur Boehm

Remy is "dying to become a chef."

Cooking Up Some Computer-Generated Food on Ratatouille - Including comfort food at its best!

In this YouTube video clip, the creative minds from Pixar discuss the challenges that were present when trying to make computer animated food real. In this scene you will see Remy's soup. I'm sure you will agree it looks delicious but I'm wondering if you can smell it, too? Remy's soup positively reminds me of Comfort Food at its best.

Gusteau's of Paris - A kitchen with a view!

The soup scene from Ratatouille is absolutely one of my favorites scenes...the aroma wafting out of that pot is amazing when Remy is finished spicing it up. I'm not sure if this carrot is going to make it into the pot but one thing I am sure of and that is that Remy wouldn't dream of using baby cut carrots. He'd pick only the tastiest, most nutritious carrots.

Remy Would Love To Add These Copper Pots To His Kitchen

The Matfer 8 Piece Bourgeat Copper Cookware Set

Whether Remy was making my soup or an omelet, this set would suit him brilliantly. Because of the cost of the set people do frequently build their collection from individual pieces.

"This is the very finest cookware made. It's expensive but worth every penny. The quality is evident in the heft and feel of each pot and pan. When you get into the larger pots, it is almost as heavy as cast iron. This line of cookware is truly the Ferrari of the kitchen. The copper responds immediately to any temperature input. So if you are a casual cook who does not tend to pay close attention to what's going on in the pan, things can go wrong quickly. But if you are an accomplished cook, cooking with Bourgeat is like taking a Ferrari to it's limits on the track. " ~~ Terry Gruggen

I love this image of Linguini and Remy looking happy and satisfied in front of the Eiffel Tower. The image is from Amazon. However, it is no longer available there nor on eBay or Allposters so I am leaving it here on this page so that we can continue to enjoy it. Click here to see the posters available on Amazon that come up when I search for Remy and Linguini.

"I like good food, okay?

I don't want to eat garbage."

Pixar's Ratatouille Cooking 101 - All of the 'chefs' in this movie had to take cooking lessons.

In order to make this movie work, to make every morsel of food seem fresh, every pot touchable, the animators had to take cooking lessons.

Food was prepared on real stoves so that it could be recreated in animation.

If You Haven't Seen Ratatouille The Movie Yet

You should order your copy right now from Amazon.

High-Def Digest says, "Ratatouille stands tall among the tallest of Pixar accomplishments -- it's adventurous, witty, visually captivating and utterly charming. This blu-ray release is also fantastic, boasting absolutely perfect video and audio, plus a great package of extras. I've reviewed over 500 next-gen discs over the last year and a half, and not one has received a perfect five star rating overall, but there's a first time for everything and I'm happy to report that 'Ratatouille' is it. This is a must-own disc that no Blu-ray collection should be without."

Amazon Customer Reviewer Gerard D. Launay says, "Everything about this film is wonderful...the streets of Paris are recreated in rich colors and exquisite detail. I haven't seen a European city look this good in an animated film since Disney's "Pinocchio." Yes, it is definitely worth experiencing this delight on Blu-Ray. Oh my, even the French copper pots look authentic."

The blu-ray version of this movie includes: Gusteau's Gourmet Game in which you are able to help Linguini prepare meals while the orders flood in; Cine-Explore a behind-the-scenes experience; deleted scenes; an animated short called 'Your Friend The Rat' starring Remy and Emile; a funny theatrical short called 'Lifted;' and, a behind-the-scenes feature called 'Fine Food and Film' with chef Thomas Keller.

The Ratatouille Movie Soundtrack - A Walt Disney soundtrack composed by Michael Giacchino.

"Definitely worth a purchase, the disc features songs that are playful, reflective, jazzy... sometimes all at once. As another commenter rightly noted, one of the songs -- "Anyone Can Cook" -- is particularly notable for how it tugs at your heartstrings and evokes the more sensitive moments towards the end of the film...But, oh, the rest of the tunes! Such a pleasure, bringing back great memories from the film. They'll be listened to again and again." ~~ Adam Lasnik

Mattel's Little Chef Remy

Mattel's Little Chef Remy is an interactive plush toy. He talks and dances, he wiggles his ears, blinks his eyes and sniffs! I actually have this rat on my fridge. He's been hanging around our kitchen for a long, long time. My teenagers enjoyed him for years.

This is one of my favorite movies - apart from the very realistic scene when all the rats are in the house. I have a rat phobia so this is not good! You have done a wonderful job on this lens. Blessings to you

What a creative idea...writing a cooking lens and spotlighting a movie at the same time! I must say that I am NOT a cartoon person, but the rest of the family is. They talked me into watching Ratatouille just recently, and I'm glad they did! I actually loved the didn't seem all that cartoon-ey, except for the cooking rat, that is. All the food in the movie sounds great, too!
