Real or Bogus? The News Headline Game #2

Updated on June 22, 2014

Some news headlines are almost too shocking or ridiculous for us to believe there could be a legitimate story behind them. But as is often the case in real life, truth can be stranger than fiction. Now you can test your ability to discern genuine news from the fake in the Real or Bogus? Game.

To play along: get out a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. Number your paper 1-20. Next, scroll down to the Headlines section – remembering some of these headlines are REAL, while others completely BOGUS. Mark on your paper your choice of REAL or BOGUS for each individual headline. Answers can be found below the Headlines. For each headline you correctly discern as real or bogus you get 10 points, making for a potential total score of 200.

Have fun and good luck!

IndependentMind, thanks for dropping in! And I wouldn't be surprised if one day we don't hear that these bogus ones come reality.

Great article. Great fun. I got 7 wrong because i marked all of them as real. None of the headlines were beyond the scope of today's reality.

Those that you list as bogus certainly would not have been a great surprise if they were actually true. L.O.L.

I am so not surprised by the boy faking being kidnapped to avoid the dentist! Kids will do almost anything these days to avoid doctors or dentists. This was a fun hub! Thanks for posting it!

Hi bethperry. This was fun, interesting idea for a hub that's interactive! I got a score of 160, a surprising 16 out of 20 correct! I guess I know human nature pretty well. :-) Voted up and funny.

Interesting Beth. I know what you mean though, that is basically why I have stopped reading news stories - especially small papers.

I did not even make 50% because I only got 9 correct. I figured that I would get the first one right for instance.
