Tree With Deep Roots is one of the best Korean historical drama I've ever watched. It's adapted from a novel of the same title published in June 2006, written by Lee Jung Myung.

Director Jang Tae Yoo who directed Painter of the Wind beautifully directed this drama and duo sageuk drama screenwriters from Queen SeonDeok & Dae Jang Geum Kim Young Hyun and Park Sang Yun wrote impeccable script.

Song Joong Ki from Sungkungkwan Scandal played young King Sejong. The awesome Han Suk Kyu played King Sejong.

If you love Painter of the Wind, Dae Jang Geum or Queen SeonDeok, I believe you will love this drama.

Are you excited for A Tree With Deep Roots?

Brief Sypnosis

A tree which has deep roots will always stand out amongs the other trees.

Background of this drama:

The reign of King Sejong the Great. King Sejong is famously known as the King who invented Korean Alphabet (Hangul). This drama will mainly focus on King Sejong's reformation of the Korean language as well as the scholars murder cases which happen during this time.

Brief Synopsis:

In 1420, King Sejong invented Hall of Worthies at Gyeongbok Palace. King Sejong personally hand-picked the scholars who join Hall of Worthies and many people believe that these scholars were the ones behind the creation of Hunmin Jeongeum / Korean new writing system which is now called Hangul. So Yi, a beautiful court lady would be helping King Sejong in his Hangul creation. When she was young, she had a trauma which caused her unable to speak. But she'd be encouraged to speak again.

Before King Sejong was able to publicly announcing about the new Korean writing system, he's being challenged by people who didn't believe in reformation causing political turmoil. They murder the scholars at Hall of Worthies and King Sejong appointed the investigation officer, Kang Chae Yoon, to handle these murder cases.

Protagonist Kang Chae Yoon who is described as a genius and strong person initially came from a nobleman family. However, due to various incidents, his family were degraded to slaves and he's determined to climb his way up again. He knew that King Sejong was the one behind his family's incidents but he set his revenge aside hoping that if he can solve these murder cases, King Sejong may return their family dignity back.

Many conspiracy will be discovered during his investigation and honestly, I can't wait for this drama to unfold.

Great job casting Han Seok-Kyu and Song Joong-ki as Lee Do. Same intensity, especially in the eyes.
