Spring 2012 TV Season Premieres what I’ll be watching!

Updated on February 3, 2012

Update Mad Men Season 5 Poster

Now that the holidays have past and the cold of winter is setting in, it is once again time to watch some television. It seems weird that shows will start mid season now, it only feels like a few years ago that the only season premieres airing after the holiday break were replacements for those shows that got cancelled. This year it is different, some big time shows are starting their seasons in the spring including 30 Rock and Mad Men, two critically acclaimed shows that have been on hiatus, one due to a baby boom and the other network issues. With all the cable channels, networks, and movie services television has become a past time so tailored to individual needs that everyone has their own lineup they watch every week. So I will be sharing my personal viewing habits with you. Below are the shows I will be watching this spring. I am only listing the shows that have season premieres and not those that are in mid season. Although I am still a little upset that the show Community on NBC is not returning! However my pain will be eased by a number of other shows returning for extremely long hiatuses. So without further ado here is a list of shows i will be watching this spring, i also recommend anyone of these shows to watch!

30 Rock (NBC)

The first season premiere I will be watching in the spring of 2012 is 30 Rock! 30 Rock has been on hiatus since it's season 5 finale in May of 2011. NBC pushed the season 6 premiere to January because two main characters on the show, including show creator Tina Fey had babies! A truly great reason to be on hiatus but it's been too long since we've been presented with our weekly dose of Liz Lemon and the rest at "TGS". The show is a 30 minute comedy about the behind the scene antics of the show "TGS" being filmed at 30 Rockefeller Center. Tina Fey plays Liz Lemon the head writer on the show that has to reign in the cast which includes Tracey Jordon and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) but also guided by her mentor Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin). This show is a great laugh! Season 6 preiemiers on Thrusday January 12th at 8 pm est on NBC.

Being Human (SyFy)

The next show I will be watching this spring is one that I stumbled across last spring when it first premiered. The show like a number of others in the United States is actually an adaptation of a BBC series under the same title. This show is Being Human. It airs on the SyFy channel, which is geared towards the science fiction genre. The show centers around three roommates, Aidan (Sam Witwer), Sally (Meaghan Rath), and Josh (Sam Huntington). It seems like your typical sitcom but there's a twist. Aidan is a werewolf, Sally is a ghost, and Josh is a 300 year old vampire! The show doesn't have the same quality of True Blood on HBO but the storyline and characters will slowly pull you in as they become their own unique family of misfits. By the end of the first season i was hooked and been waiting for the second season to premier ever since! Being Human Season 2 premiers on the SyFy channel on Monday January 16th at 9 pm EST.

The long awaited season 5 of Mad Men airs in March!

Mad Men (AMC)

The next season premier is one i have been awaiting a long time! Finally after a year and four months Mad Men will return to the television line up! The 60's era show about Don Draper, an ad agency, their women, and all the drama that ensues has won many awards over the years. The show is not only award winning but genius! Creator Matthew Weiner has created a master piece and has even romanticize the 1960's in it's own harsh but realistic reality. I've written about the absence this show has had in many fan's lives in the hub Do you have Mad Men Withdrawal? The show's main character Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is a multi faceted person with tremendous depth of good and bad, like most human beings. As the show moves into the second half of the series the episodes just get better and better! Mad Men, season 5 premiers sometime in March on AMC, it's typical time slot is 9pm EST. However you can catch reruns of the first four seasons on AMC on Sunday mornings. This is truly one of the smartest television shows on TV right now and of recent history! A must watch!

Update 1/9/12

Just announced that Mad Men season 5 will premier on Sunday March 25th!

Update 2/3/12

The season 5 Mad Men premier date in the United Kingdom is just two days after the United States premier. Mad Men season 5 will air on the Sky Atlantic HD channel on Tuesday March 27th at 9PM!

Update 1/13/12 Game of Thrones

The Season 2 Premier of Game of Thrones is April 1, 2012 on HBO!

Game of Thrones (HBO)

The final season premier i will be watching this spring is another show I stumbled upon last year. Game of Thrones is an HBO drama based on the book series under the same name byGeorge R. R. Martin. The series follows a medieval like time period in a made up land where different families represented by different animals are plotting and dying for the crown to rule over all. At first i didn't find this show to be interesting but as the plot was unveiled in the first season, with a huge surprise towards the end of the season I was hooked. The show, although set in a different time and universe has just enough magic and just enough political drama to make it extremely interesting and worth watching. Game of Thrones is the latest of many TV series hits for HBO and joins the ranks of Entourage, Sex and the City, and True Blood (another show I watch in the summer!). Season two of Game of Thrones premiers in April on HBO, the typical time slot is 9pm EST.

Which Show are you looking forward to most?

Hey Megan, i agree Game of Thrones is riveting but Mad Men's still my favorite lol, I haven't gotten a chance to see the original Being Human but part of the reason i did give the SyFy one a chance is because it was an adaptation of a BBC show lol, English tv remade into American Tv is pretty good sometimes! Thanks for the comment Happy New Year!

I voted for Game of Thrones. I will gladly watch Mad Men again, but Game of Thrones is just riveting. I'm halfway through the third book, so I know it can only get better!

Have you seen the original Being Human? Love it on BBCA, but I wasn't able to get into it on SyFy. Maybe I have to give it another try...
