The Best Summer Songs Playlist for the ipod Part Two

Updated on January 3, 2015

Summer and great songs continue

Part Two of Great Summer Songs for the ipod continues on those feel good songs of summer that should be put on your ipod summer playlist.

Here are some of the great tunes that will have you smiling and remembering summers gone by.

SUMMER OF 69 by BRYAN ADAMS is a great summer song. Summer in this case is the story of youth and dreams ahead of you. Growing older we come to realize that dreams don’t always pan out the same can be said about relationships, but great memories remain.

UNDER THE BOARDWALK by THE DRIFTERS is a great visualization song. You can place yourself right near the water with the lyrics “In the park you hear the happy sound of the carousel you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell Under the boardwalk Down by the sea, yeah On a blanket with my baby Is where I'll be.” Summer wouldn’t be the same without hearing this song. No matter what age you are you can relate to the lyrics.

In a continuation of rock summer songs we enter into the realm of songs of summer that aren’t always so happy.

BOYS OF SUMMER by DON HENLEY this song is more about the end of summer and the end of a love at least for one person. The songs singer has different ideas he can’t forget the past and wants to recreate their love. It has a haunting song with driving beat that still sounds fresh even though it has been about many years since it was first released.

CRUEL SUMMER by BANANARAMA it is summer but the summer isn’t going very well in this song. A love has left and it has made a hot summer not very enjoyable.Though the lyrics are dark the mood of the tune is light and airy. It will make you want to dance.

On a brighter note here are some of the summer tunes that send out a happier message.

HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME by SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE you can picture going out in the country and just lying out a blanket with a picnic basket and enjoying the day. It makes you feel free and easy.

SUMMER BREEZE by SEALS AND CROFT this song feels like a breeze with its silky music and vocals. The lyrics of “Sweet days of summer the jasmine's in bloom July is dressed up and playing her tune” really set the tone for the song. July is free and easy and being in love makes everything wonderful. Great harmonies are in this song.

Summer songs can also be found in great instrumentals here are some of the best:

GRAZIN IN THE GRASS by HUGH MASEKELA what a great instrumental this is the horns pushing the song along smooth as silk and of all things a cow bell accompanying it. It couldn’t have been arranged any better. It sounds as good today as it did when it was first released.

CAST YOUR FATE TO THE WIND by VINCE GUARALDI this song feels like you are on a tropical beach or in a foreign land with the samba like sounds. It feels light and breezy as the title suggests.

TEQUILA by THE CHAMPS somehow drinks become involved in the thoughts of summer and this song will quench your thirst. This song starts out with a raunchy saxophone as if the band had been drinking a few shots of tequila before they started recording. It continues to bring you in and have you tapping your toes or wanting to dance. This song will loosen you up.

THEME FROM A SUMMER PLACE by PERCY FAITH this song is romantic fits into those summer evenings. The orchestra with its horns and strings transports you to a gazebo in the moonlight.

ALL SUMMER LONG by KID ROCK he takes you a journey through his idyllic summers in Northern Michigan being a teenager and enjoying the summer and first love. You don’t have to be from Michigan to enjoy and relate to this song. It also has a hook from the songs “Werewolves of London” and “Sweet Home Alabama” songs that were probably hits during those summers he is remembering.

FIVE O CLOCK SOMEWHERE by ALAN JACKSON AND JIMMY BUFFET is an anthem for celebrating no matter what the clock is saying. Parties abound and drinks flow which is keeping the summer rolling on in this drinking anthem song.

MARGARITAVILLE by JIMMY BUFFET you can feel the heat and smell the shrimp boiling in this song. The guy in the song is on a vacation that never ends trying to forget that special someone and realizing that the only one to blame for his drunken condition is himself. Through it all it has the sounds of tropical beaches and crowds at the beach and fun times to be had even though the singer has lost his good times for the moment.

CHATTAHOOCHEE is another song by ALAN JACKSON this song celebrates the joys of summer skiing on the river, enjoying the summer, and discovering first love. The song just randomly picks the place of Chattahoochee but everyone can relate to growing up and experiencing all the things mentioned in this song.

TOES by THE ZAC BROWN BAND finds the singer of this song taking a spur of the moment trip to some island unidentified. In his crude way he is simply there to escape some trouble he had in Georgia and a tropical trip is doing the trick at least for now.

TWO PINA COLADAS is a song by GARTH BROOKS the singer of this song is having his woes and wants to forget it all with a few pina coladas. We have the Latin sounds and the beach and sand it all combines for great times ahead and dealing with a problem a little later.

SPRINGSTEEN in this song by ERIC CHURCH we go back to July summer nights and being seventeen and being free. Springsteen is the soundtrack for this summer memory and we are drawn into this visit to endless summer fun.

There are many more songs that could be classified as summer songs. Everyone remembers a certain song that takes them back to memorable times and that could be the summer song for your ipod too. Use the songs suggested and some from your fondest memories of summer. Hope you have a great time whether it is at the beach or in the shade. Create the soundtrack of summer and may it be one you will always remember.

Thank you Alecia for liking the list I came up with. It is funny how a song can make you feel good or bad, and it can bring great memories up too.

I like a lot of these songs. There's something about a great summer song that makes you feel great all over. My favorite would have to be Cruel Summer. Even though Bananarama is more of a nostalgia act, I think it is most fitting that they produced one of the most simple summer songs ever.
