Superman Returns and Hopes For Man of Steel

Updated on October 4, 2015

Superman Movies

I'm not going to go into the Christopher Reeves movies even though I thought those movies were great. And, I think he was the best to depict the character. Here I want to talk about the most recent and new movies of Superman. Such as Superman Returns and Superman Man of Steel. If they continue to make more I'll feature them here or make a link to them.

Not much can be said about Man of Steel until I see it but Returns there's so much I can talk about till it does. Im just going to refer to the movies as Returns and Man of Steel for the rest of the lens.

The Uniform

I thought the uniform on Returns was terrible. I disliked the S how it looked like it was put on at the last second (oh no we forgot the S lets just slap it on top) and all the small symbols on the whole thing. It can look good from far away but upclose it just looks dumb. I actually didn't like the uniform on Man of Steel at first, but it actually can work. The cape looks awesome in itself. Especially compared to Returns. The S doesn't look like it is going to fall off. The shade of blue is questionable but I like the darker look. If you look below you can see how it looks like the New 52 comic with slight similarities.

Similarities to The New 52 Comic book

Almost everything the same except the color, belt, wrist, and neck.

Role of Clark Kent

Brandon Routh in Returns I think did better as Clark Kent then as superman. He has the look for both although it may have been just the writing of his dialogue that really irritated me. For example when he says "I'm still Superman!" over and over again I thought that was really a bad call. That's one thing I don't think Superman would ever say. Possibly the whole thing Returns did wrong was try to be consistent with the Christopher Reeves movies. They shouldn't have done that because if any of you saw those great movies. They were cheesy and that was good for back in the day. For 2006 it wasn't a good choice because they didn't have enough individuality to the movie besides the special effects (Which were awesome by the way) Probably the best part of the movies were those scenes and of course Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

Fighting Scenes

Returns had no real fight scenes honestly the best thing about a movie especially a super hero movie is the fight scenes. If you don't put enough the movie won't do so well. They don't necessarily have to be fight scenes in itself. One thing they did well was showing Superman protect and save people. From the looks of this picture it looks like we will finally get to see a real fight in Man of Steel. Henry Cavill should be a great pick for a fight with Zod. Just Just watching his fight scenes in Immortals show that he can do the action scenes, just he won't be killing anyone in this movie.

Lois Lane Intrepid Reporter - Kate Bosworth and Amy Adams

Kate Bosworth did a pretty good job, not the best lois lane ever or anything. It did seem she was trying too hard at moments didn't really flow naturally. Overall an alright Lois Lane. Amy Adams was a surprise. I think she could pull it off though, a very good actress that can play different roles. We will see though, you never know.

Jor-El

This has to be the coolest look for Jor-El reminds me of Gladiator a little bit. Kinda makes you think Jor-El is the greatest warrior of Krypton instead of a scientist.

Superman

The second Man of Steel official trailer gives you a really great plot preview. What's great about it is that it's not really a spoiler, like some movies show pretty much the entire movie on the trailer and kinda ruins the movie when you go see it.

Comments - What did you Think about Superman Returns and are you looking forward to Man of Steel?

I was not a fan of Returns at all. The movie just never fealt like it was going anywhere to me. I really like the Batman reboot, so I'll be willing to give the new movie a chance.

I had heard that it was really bad before seeing Returns, so when i actually got round to seeing it, it was better than i thought it would be. Really though, it should have been great, which was why people were so let down.
