Take This Waltz Soundtrack Features Leonard Cohen, Burton Cummings, Feist, The Parachute Club & The Buggles
Songs From Seth Rogen Movie
Sorry to disappoint any Leonard Cohen fans but the Take This Waltz Soundtrack is not a biopic of the much esteemed Canadian songwriter but rather the music for a movie by fellow Canadian Seth Rogen.
Take This Waltz features the Leonard Cohen song of the same name as well a cover of "Closing Time" by Feist. The movie is packed with CanCon -- radio jargon for Canadian Content, a bevvy of Canuck talent including the much beloved Burton Cummings and his 1970s power hit "Stand Tall".
Additional artists include Corrina Rose & the Dusty Horse Band, Micah P. Hinson, JoSH, Doug Paisley, The Parachute Club, Charles Spearin, Jason Collett and a blast from the past, that ever so cloying 80s song "Video Killed the Radio Star" from the Buggles.
Rogen, your average Joe that you often don't think of as a romantic lead has had his pick of beautiful leading ladies including Katherine Heigl in Knocked Up, Elizabeth Banks in Zack and Miri and now Michelle Williams in Take This Waltz fresh off her performance as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. The movie also stars comedian Sarah Silverman who also shows her versatility in being able to play a more serious role.
Before being released in theaters June 29, 2012, Take This Waltz was screened at numerous film festivals across Canada starting with the Toronto International Film Festival last September 2011 and has been screened internationally in Spain, at the Istanbul International Film February 2012, Hong Kong International Film Festival March 2012, Denmark CPH Pix April 2012 and in the U.S. at the Tribeca Film Festival April 22, 2012.
Director Sarah Polley's movie does a a wonderful job of asking the question, "Is the grass greener on the other side?" Seth Rogen's character is sweet, predictable and wonderfully loyal. A movie that tackles the same subject with similar sensitivity is Last Night>i? Both movies don't necessarily provide easy answers but do accurately characterize the emotional issues at hand.
If you like seeing Seth Rogen when he plays the romantic lead, look for him on a past episode of The Mindy Project where he played Mindy's childhood crush, Sam Kleinfeld in the episode "The One That Got Away". But if it's the Seth you love when he plays raunchy, you can check out his writing in Ben Stiller & Vince Vaughn's movie now on DVD The Watch which he co-wrote with his writing partner Evan Goldberg. Look for Seth this summer in the over-the-top This is the End which reunites him with his Pineapple Express & Freaks & Geeks co-star James Franco. Look for the apocalyptic comedy in theaters June 12, 2013.
Speaking of James Franco, look for him and Seth's co-star Michelle Williams in the upcoming DVD release of the 2013 edition of Oz The Great and Powerful which is coming to DVD on June 11, 2013 also starring Mila Kunis. You may also enjoy Michelle Williams in the romantic drama Blue Valentine co-starring Ryan Gosling which is currently available to watch instantly on Netflix.

This video is an acoustic live performance of the song. See the video below or check out the album version of "Parachutes" on Amazon.com. It takes a little over a minute before the more upbeat retro Amy Winehouse kind of groove kicks in, the part that's used in the Take This Waltz Movie Trailer.

Take This Waltz Movie Trailer - First Look Preview
A slimmer, more svelte Seth Rogen is shown in the movie's trailers and if you've ever heard Rogen's goofy guffaw, it's great that director Sarah Polley left it in the scene where he gets all giddy excited about being pulled on a bicycle rickshaw.
I feel like being out in the world with you. Can we spend the day together?
Take This Waltz Theatrical Trailer - Extended Preview Clip
In Jerry McGuire, Tom Cruise's most memorable line is "You complete me". For Michelle Williams as Margot, her version of Renee Zellweger's "You had me at hello" is when she says "I want to figure out what you do to me" to Daniel played by Luke Kirby.
I'm afraid of connections -- of wondering, if I'll miss it. I don't like being in between things.

One of the best scenes in the movie and barely a word is spoken. A range of emotions from pure joy, bliss to anxiousness and disappointment is all played out on a dizzying ride on The Scrambler all set to the beat of Video Killed the Radio Star.
This Buggles song is actually a perfect selection about the prediction that new media would trounce the old, a metaphor on relationships and similar to the crossroads faced by Michelle Williams' character and the changing reality she faces.
Life has a gap in it, it just does if you don't go crazy trying to fill it.
