The Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes Season 2

Updated on November 12, 2017
The Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes Season 2
The Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes Season 2

The Second Season of The Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes on Disney XD

The second season of Marvel Animation's The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! premiered on April 1st on Disney XD and it looked like that year they were pulling out all the stops.

Of course The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was based on the comic book The Avengers which was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby back in 1963.

And a considerable amount of buzz was being stirred by the then upcoming Marvel movie "The Avengers" which hit theaters on May 4th, 2012 in the United States.

But the cartoon was standalone fun, though you will get more of the inside jokes and nods to story lines and characters (which abound) if you have actually read the comics.

In the first season we had Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp, Hawkeye, Black Panther and Ant-Man/Giant-Man as the core of the group.

But in the second season they pulled a Justice League Unlimited and went all out with guest stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comic books.

The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Season 2 Trailer

The Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season 2 Episode Guide

1. "The Private War of Doctor Doom"

2. "Alone Against A.I.M."

3. Acts of Vengeance"

4. "Welcome to the Kree Empire"

5. "To Steal an Ant-Man"

More to come!

Trailer Recap

So who (and what) did we see from the above trailer?

Dr. Doom

The Vision

Captain America's new costume and shield (still do not want!)

Thor's new costume (not bad)

Iron Mans new armor (not a big change)

Hulk's new spandex shorts (logical)

Skrulls and Kree

Red Hulk

Fantastic Four

Baron Zemo

Super Skrull

1. The Private War of Doctor Doom - S02E01 - April 1st, 2012

The Private War of Doctor Doom
The Private War of Doctor Doom

Episode One started off nicely with guest stars the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom.

As usual, Dr.Doom's plans are not all that they seem.

Dr. Doom's "Threat Level" rundown at the beginning of the show was pretty cool.

Funniest moment: Either Ben and Hulk going at it every chance they had or Johnny and Cap talking at the poker game, considering in the films, Cap and Johnny were both played by Chris Evans.

Side Note: Did the Doom-Bots attacking remind anyone of the attacks in the Avengers movie trailer?

Hawkeye keeping the peace at the poker game

2. Alone Against A.I.M - S02E02 - April 8th, 2012

War Machine - Avengers
War Machine - Avengers

Keeping up with the pace they set last week, we get mentions of the X-Men and Spider-Man, plus an appearance by War Machine.

We also get Cap's "energy shield" which I still don't like.

Nothing that funny this week, but the coolest thing to me was Maria Hill mentioning the Webslinger and Marvel's merry mutants.

And of course James Rhodes donning the War Machine armor.

By the way, Bumper Robinson who did the voice of Rhodes just got finished voicing another armored high tech hero, Cyborg, in Justice League: Doom.

3. Acts of Vengeance - S02E03 - April 15th, 2012

Acts of Vengeance
Acts of Vengeance

Okay, I have to admit this was my least favorite episode of the new season so far.

It had a lot of action in it, but it was mainly a story that advanced the story arcs.

(Okay...I'm complaining about the show actually advancing a plot)

We did finally get to see Thor for the first time this year.

Baron Zemo goes to the Avengers for protection from the vengeful Enchantress and one of Thor's "Big Bads" is introduced, Surtur.

But mainly we get to see the Enchantress and the Executioner, who has replaced his lost battle axe with really big guns, taking out the Masters of Evil.

4. Welcome To The Kree Empire - S02E04 - April 22nd, 2012

Ms Marvel - Welcome To The Kree Empire - S02E04 - April 22nd, 2012
Ms Marvel - Welcome To The Kree Empire - S02E04 - April 22nd, 2012

In this episode the Kree (who we met last year) come to Earth to decide if we are worthy to join the Kree Empire.

Of course since we are being judged by the Kree we get Ronan the Accuser.

And we also get Yon-Rogg, Kalum Lo and the return of Captain Mar-vell.

But that's not all...we get Abigail Brand the commanding officer of S.W.O.R.D, Henry Peter Gyrich, Sydren

But the biggest guest star this week is Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel in all her original costume glory!

Well actually she's not a guest star, because at the end of the episode Iron Man asks her to join the Avengers.

5. To Steal an Ant-Man - S02E05 - April 29th, 2012

Luke Cage - Iron Fist
Luke Cage - Iron Fist

Well this is my first "Meh" episode of the year.

Don't get me wrong, it had some really cool guest stars like the Heroes for Hire Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

It also had Scott Lang who became the second Ant-Man.

And a ton of minor characters like Cassandra Lang (Scott's daughter) William Cross (Crossfire), Man-Mountain Marko, Steeplejack, Spear, Gideon Mace, Cockroach Hamilton, Big Ben Donovan, Piranha Jones and Scythe.

But something just seemed off this episode.

No Avengers maybe?

Yep, Wasp was the only regular Avenger in this episode.

Also I realized just how crappy martial arts characters look fighting in cartoons (with the exception of most Japanese anime).

Maybe the animation in Young Justice has ruined me, but I swear the Avengers artwork looks worse this year.

6. Michael Korvac - S02E06 - May 6th, 2012

Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy

This week's episode was better than last week (to me at least) as we get Michael Korvac and the Guardians of the Galaxy (Star Lord, Adam Warlock, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Quasar) and The Avengers.

Janet (The Wasp) takes a nameless guy right off the street into the Avengers HQ.

(Good thing it wasn't a Doom-Bot in disguise)

We get a nod to alien abduction stories.

Jane Foster appears to be the Avengers Chief Medical Officer.

Hulk is smarter than he looks.

Best line...

Hawkeye: There's a tree and a raccoon scowling at us man...are we firing?

Boyd Kirkland

Boyd Kirkland
Boyd Kirkland

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Boyd Kirkland who passed away on January 27th, 2011.

Boyd worked on X-Men: Evolution, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and Batman: The Animated Series and was very respected in the industry.

7. Who Do You Trust? - S02E07 - May 13th, 2012

The Avengers-Ms Marvel-Hawkeye
The Avengers-Ms Marvel-Hawkeye

Not a bad episode at all.

The Skrull plot line advances as Nick Fury shows back up and tells Maria Hill, then Iron Man about the Skrull invasion.

Tony of course immediately goes to Avengers Mansion and basically accuses everyone of being Skrulls.

Hijinks ensue.

We also get to see the queen of the Skrull empire Veranke.

Best moment...

When Ms.Marvel is battling Griffin, and the rest of the team just kinda sit back and watch, offering advice.

Kinda like Superhero hazing.

8. The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill - S02E08 - May 20th, 2012

Beta Ray Bill-Thor-Avengers
Beta Ray Bill-Thor-Avengers

A let down after last week's promising episode.

Despite a really cool title and a story featuring one of my favorite Thor characters Beta Ray Bill, I really couldn't get excited about this episode either.

Maybe it's that The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes doesn't seem to be able to do what Young Justice does and bounce back and forth between story lines in one episode.

This was all Thor and Asgard.

No jumps to the Kree-Skrull storyline on Earth, no side stories, kinda like a horse with blinders on.

The story was based on Thor #337 (Nov. 1983) but was wildly changed, omitting Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., no battle to the death with Thor (which damages the character because in the book, Bill wins the hammer but gives it back to Thor cementing his worthiness) and no Bill leading Earth's heroes against Surtur's forces.

Though they did hint at the attraction between Sif and Bill.

So yeah they took one of my favorite Thor stories and lamed it up.

The Avengers on Hiatus....May 27th, 2012 - And Maybe Cancelled....What?

The Avengers-Nightmare in Red-Red Hulk
The Avengers-Nightmare in Red-Red Hulk

Disney XD is giving Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes a month long hiatus and there will be no new episodes airing in the US until June 24th.

Way to capitalize on the incredible popularity of the movie guys!

You have a cartoon that's tied in with a movie that has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide and you stop showing episodes!

Are you afraid it will succeed?

ANYWAY....our friends in Australia will get to see two episodes "Nightmare in Red" (guest starring Red Hulk) and Prisoner of War on May 30th and 31st.

And Australia will continue to air new episodes.

So my problem is this....

Do I keep doing new episodes and risk spoiling it for the US viewers?

Or stop and wait for Disney to catch up....?

Also, check out this interview with Marvel head of television Jeph Loeb on IGN....

I like this quote...

“Earth’s Mightiest Heroes has a tremendous following. One of the things that’s very unique about that show is that it was at a time prior to my coming in. It is a very serialized show, and there are a lot of characters. What we wanted to do with Spider-Man, and going forward, was to tell stories that are individualized. Obviously, we want everybody to watch the show every week, but we also know that people’s time is often taken. So, DVR the show, but if you’re not going to do that, the idea is that you will be able to catch up. I don’t ever want anybody to sit down on Sunday mornings at 11 o’clock and suddenly feel like, “Well, I lost the last three episodes, so I don’t really know what’s going on.”

He really has no idea how intelligent fans are does he?

I'm beginning to think Marvel has no clue as to what THEY are doing.

I mean Young Justice is kicking the crap outta The Avengers story wise and art wise right now, but they could try harder and actually be competition.

9. Nightmare in Red - S02E09 - May 30th, 2012 in Australia - June 24th in the USA

The Avengers-Nightmare in Red-Red Hulk-Hulk
The Avengers-Nightmare in Red-Red Hulk-Hulk

MUCH better episode this week.

Hawkeye is rapidly becoming my favorite Avenger.

We got Red Hulk, Winter Soldier (yeah!), Falcon (It must be Cap sidekick week) and Dell Rusk (heheh) in this episode.

And we got to see the Hulk say "Avengers Assemble!"

If this keeps up I will get out of my Avengers doldrums!

10. Prisoner of War - S02E10 - May 31st, 2012 in Australia - July 1st, 2012 in the US

The Avengers-Super Skrull
The Avengers-Super Skrull

In the Land Down Under they aired the Prisoner of War the next night after Nightmare In Red.

Another pretty good episode with a cameo by Galactus.

We get to see the real Capatin America lead a rag tag band of Skrull prisoners in an escape attempt.

Best moment...

When they find Sue Storm in statis and the AIM scientist says "They've got her sedated. Smart. She's more powerful than all of us put together."

Now that's MY Sue Storm...LOL

And why am I starting to really like Viper aka Madame Hydra?

Now I'm gonna start shipping a Cap/Viper romance.

Oh yeah...the shows not coming back next year.

Too bad.

Also...we get the Super-Skrull!

11. Infiltration - S02E11 - June 4th, 2012 in Australia - July 8, 2012 in the United States

Avengers-Black Panther-Infiltration
Avengers-Black Panther-Infiltration

Trying to play catch up here with the Aussie Onslaught, we have episode 11, "Infiltration".

The Skrull Invasion continues as Iron Man gets an unlikely (and cool) ally and Ms. Marvel learns that one does not simply walk into Wakanda.

Also, the sharp-eyed will get to see cameos (kinda) by Cyclops, Beast, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, Cloak and Magneto.

12. Secret Invasion - S02E12 - June 5th, 2012 in Australia - July 15th, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Ms Marvel-Hawkeye-Wasp
The Avengers-Ms Marvel-Hawkeye-Wasp

The upturn continues and I really think the shows are getting better!

Well of course!

They are either canceling it or turning it into an Ultimate Spider-Man clone so of course it's getting better!

This episode we get to see some really cool Super-Skrulls, the Fantastic Four and Thor gets his new outfit.

And is it just me or do we seem to be seeing a lot of Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel?

13. Along Came a Spider... - S02E13 - June 6th, 2012 in Australia - July 22nd, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Spider-Man-Captain America
The Avengers-Spider-Man-Captain America

Though it may be unlucky 13, in this episode we get Spider-Man, J. Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson and Betty Brant!

Captain America and Spider-Man team up to fight the Serpent Society, whose members are trying to rescue Viper and Cobra.

In a really cool bit of stunt voice casting they got Drake Bell (Spider-Man/Peter Parker) and J. K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson) to reprise their roles from Ultimate Spider-Man.

And for a nostalgia bonus, Cap is using his 1940s shield.

Not a bad episode at all...and I think the animation may have actually come up a notch.

Take a look at this shot where Spider-Man stops a tunnel from collapsing....

The Avengers-Spider-Man
The Avengers-Spider-Man

14. Behold... The Vision! - S02E14 - June 7th, 2012 in Australia - July 29, 2012, United States

The Avengers-Vision
The Avengers-Vision

Cap's finally had enough of the old shield and he, Thor, and Hawkeye go to Wakanda to get it fixed and to try to talk the Black Panther to into coming back to the team

But a monkey wrench is thrown into his plans as everyone's favorite android show up to steal the shield and Wakanda's supply of vibranium.

Another really solid episode.

If you are new to comics or stopped reading them ages ago, this episode is pretty cool because it shows you just how bad the Vision really is/was.

(I have no idea what they have done to the character now)

And yeah, this episode cements that Hawkeye is my favorite Avenger on this show.

15. Powerless! - S02E15 - June 11th, 2012 in Australia - ( I see what you did there)

The Avengers-The Enchantress-Loki
The Avengers-The Enchantress-Loki

The Enchantress shows up and offers Loki some revenge by using a magic spell to take away Thor's, Cap's, and Iron Man's powers.

Cap reverts to old Steve Rogers, Iron Man goes back to the grey armor and I was hoping Thor would revert to Don Blake, but no such luck.

Well at least he walks with a limp and uses a cane, that was a nice nod.

So now the powerless heroes have to take on not only Loki, but the Destroyer as well.

Well Loki AS The Destroyer.

And is it my imagination or is the Enchantress hotter since she joined Surtur?

By the way....while there is no set air date in the U.S. for this episode so far, it's slated to be included in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes boxed volume Secret Invasion as a bonus episode.

16. Assault on 42 - S02E16 - June 12th, 2012 in Australia - August 5, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Annihilus
The Avengers-Annihilus

42 (the prison in the Negative Zone built to contain the escaped super villains after they broke out way back in "Breakout, Part 1") gets attacked by an army of strange creatures and the Avengers have to team up with their enemies to fight them off.

Yeah the plot sounds similar to "Prisoner of War" but it's better.

This time we get Annihilus, who I think may be creepier here than he is in the comics.

And it's always cool to "see" Jeffrey Combs pop up on a show, this time reprising his role as The Leader.

Favorite line.....

"Touch that computer and the last thing that will pass through that over-sized mind of yours is my glowing fist."

Ms.Marvel to the Leader, proving why she and Hawkeye are my two favorite Avengers now.

17. Ultron Unlimited - S02E17 - June 13th, 2012 in Australia - August 12, 2012 in the United States

The Avengers-Ultron
The Avengers-Ultron

The Avengers are attacked and systematically replaced by duplicates that.....hey....didn't we just do this?

Well not really.

This time Ultron is behind it.

Not only is he behind it, but we get to actually see an Oedipus complex in a kid's show!

Welcome to the 21st Century kids!

Nice episode despite a huge error (to me anyway)...

"Mjolnir obeys Thor's commands as though it were alive, and if Thor's will is strong enough, the hammer can pass through nearly any barrier to reach him should he so chooses; Mjolnir will even carve its way through the very center of entire planets to get back to Thor."

Or to quote Thor himself in an awesome issue of Thor by Walt Simonson..

"Look you, Loki, to the sky! For there soars the hammer of Thor and by royal Odin's decree, it must return to my hand. Nothing may bar its way! Not even the head of Loki!"

Yet Cap's shield is able to deflect it away from Thor easily and it falls to the ground "lifeless".

Best Lines...

Cap: Did you come down here just to give me a hard time?

Hawkeye: Yes. I've actually been texting you on your ID card to give you a hard time, but you never answered.

18. Yellowjacket - S02E18 - June 14th, 2012 in Australia - September 9th, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Yellowjacket
The Avengers-Yellowjacket

Hank Pym appears to be killed in an explosion.

And suddenly a new superhero called Yellowjacket shows up and starts taking out the Serpent Society ala the Punisher.

I always like Yellowjacket and I have always hated what Marvel did to him in the 1980s.

This version is not bad, but they kinda screwed up when they opted for normal eye holes on the mask as opposed to YJ's snazzy goggles.

Goggles are much cooler.

19. Emperor Stark - S02E19 - June 18, 2012 in Australia - September 16, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Vision-Hawkeye-Ms Marvel
The Avengers-Vision-Hawkeye-Ms Marvel

This episode starts out with the Vision in pieces being repaired by Iron Man.

Which is pretty cool considering that in the LAST episode, a fully intact Vision was seen a Hank Pym's funeral.

Anyway...this was a pretty cool episode.

We got a normally lame villain, the Purple Man, stepped up a notch by perfect voice casting, Brent Spiner.

We got Sentinel Iron Man robots.

The Vision shows again just why he is so awesome and Hawkeye once again saves the day.

I so want a third season with Hawkeye, Ms.Marvel, Vision, Yellowjacket and Cap as the leader.

But alas that is not to be as they will either be cancelled or neutered ala Ultimate Spider-Man.

20. Code Red - S02E20 - June 19, 2012 in Australia - September 23, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Thor
The Avengers-Thor

When the Avengers HQ gets flooded with a strange gas, all of the Avengers get taken down except Iron Man.

Too bad that Vision evidently took that day off because he would have been a great help to Iron Man.

We get to see Red Hulk, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Doc Sampson and Secretary of Defense "Dell Rusk" again.

We also get a Winter Soldier "teaser".

Best line, Ms. Marvel....

"Never turn your back on an Avenger. Especially one with an attitude."

Best move...

Either Iron Man's "Hail Mary" or Thor showing Red Hulk just what his hammer can do.

All in all not a bad episode.

21. Winter Soldier - S02E21 - June 20, 2012 in Australia - September 30, 2012 United States

The Avengers-winter soldier-captain america
The Avengers-winter soldier-captain america

You know, while Young Justice is deep, serious and dark most of the times, The Avengers is getting to be just plain fun.

I am really gonna hate to see this show go.

Rescind the cancel order Marvel!

This episode we get Captain America, Winter Soldier, Nick Fury and get to see the Avengers work as a team.

We also get a really cool Calvary rescue by Thor and Vision.

22. The Deadliest Man Alive - S02E22 - June 21, 2012 in Australia - October 7, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Red Hulk
The Avengers-Red Hulk

The title of this episode is what Nick Fury called Winter Soldier in the last episode....?

Anyway, remember when Skrull-Cap convinced Hulk to turn himself over to the government?

Well now the Hulk has been cleared of all the crimes committed by the Red Hulk (cause you know the Hulk is GREEN and stuff....) but he goes nuts upon his release and Red Hulk steps in to help the Avengers claiming he was mind-controlled etc etc etc.

Again, not a bad episode at all.

Even a friend of mine that watched it with me (that's not into comics) liked it.

23. New Avengers - S02E23 - June 25, 2012 in Australia - October 14, 2012 United States

The Avengers-New Avengers
The Avengers-New Avengers

Fan service episode!

You have to give The Avengers writing team credit.

They waited till almost the end of the second season to bring Wolverine into an episode!

We get the New Avengers, Spider-Man, War Machine, Wolverine, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and the Thing, plus Kang, and a whole bunch of inside jokes and references.

Not that great of an episode really, but the "fan love" makes up for all that.

Sadly, there's only three episodes left .

24. Operation Galactic Storm - S02E24 - June 26, 2012 in Australia - October 21, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Captain America-Iron Man-Ms Marvel
The Avengers-Captain America-Iron Man-Ms Marvel

Those pesky Kree decide to create a wormhole connecting their solar system with ours.

Unfortunately, that will destroy our sun.

Maybe they should have contacted the Vogons and just built a hyperspace bypass.

That would have been just as bad though.....

Anyway, another really good, solid episode with what I think is much better animation.

(Compare this episode to "To Steal an Ant-Man")

I do so want a third season with Cap, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and Yellowjacket as the Avengers.

Their "Attitude" Season.

25. Live Kree or Die - S02E25 - June 27, 2012 in Australia - November 4, 2012 United States

The Avengers-Captain Marvel-Mar-Vell
The Avengers-Captain Marvel-Mar-Vell

This show just keeps picking up steam and this is the next to last episode!

After last episode, the Avengers wind up on the Kree home world Hala.

You can assume the Welcome Wagon is not waiting for them.

Not a bad episode at all.

I especially liked the Supreme Intelligence's ramblings as he was shutting down at the end.

By the way, just noticed that I have been saying "Mar-Vell" incorrectly for about forty some years.

26. Avengers Assemble! - S02E26 - June 28, 2012 in Australia - November 11, 2012 United States

The Avengers
The Avengers

What was probably the last episode of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Season may have been the best.

I almost didn't want to watch this because from all accounts, this is it for the show.

If it is the end, screwed up what could have been a great thing.

From this episode alone, they could have easily gone on to rival The Justice League cartoons.

This episode we get ALL the Avengers (even the reserves) as they go up against Air-Walker, Firelord, Stardust, Terrax and Galactus.

Favorite Lines:

Spider-Man (to Cap as Galactus is kicking the crap outta everybody): It's the end of the world! I'm freaking out! Why aren't you freaking out?

Cap: Because I can hear it.

Spidey: Hear what?

Cap (looks up slightly): Thunder.

Wait! What's This?

Jeph Loeb might NOT cancel Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

The best news I have heard all day!

"Avengers Assemble, will be a continuation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes‘ continuity even though it came with a creative change a new direction."

I feel somewhat better now....

The "New" Avengers Cartoon

I'm going to be keeping track of the new Avengers cartoon on this Lens here.

I warn you going in that I'm gonna be biased because I think it's ridiculous that Marvel is tossing away all this good press that The Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes got just so they can capitalize on the movie's success.

So this new cartoon better be pretty DARN good!

@TemporaryTattoo1: That's what hooked me on this show too.

It was like my 60s comics brought to life, with modern touches thrown in.

      Thanks for the compliment!

I love Season One of the Avengers, I`m and old school kinda guy and love cartoons and animation that reminds me of my childhood. I love this lens and can see you put an enormous amount of effort into it. Great lensmaster well done!

@anonymous: I saw that too and at first I was confused. But at the end of "To Steal An Ant-Man" Hank gives Scott Lang the Ant Suit so I'm guessing that Ant Man is Scott.

      [Spoiler Alert]

Did anyone else notice Yellowjacket and Ant Man in different scenes in "Avengers Assemble" S02E26? Aren't both characters really Hank Pym? What's up with that? I saw Yellowjacket fighting Galactus and Ant Man fighting Firelord.

I should be more aware of who all these characters are, as my son followed all the action heroes. I know he will be going to see the movie "The Advengers" when it comes out. The Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes looks like fun stuff!
