The Best Korean Historical Drama

Updated on November 9, 2016

Korean Historical Drama

Are you looking for the list of the best Korean Historical Drama of all time? Look no more, I've compiled the lists here.

Korean Historical Drama is a fictionalized dramatization of Korean history based on a specific era. It is usually portrays a journey of a person from their young lives until they made a history in that era. Sometimes, it's also portrays the life of a particular King and each of the obstacles, difficulties he experienced during his reign time as a King.

This genre of drama mainly involves very complex story lines combine with great martial arts and sword fighting. My husband used to say that historical drama is like a CSI movie but in Korean language. As the story is very complex and long, each drama usually have 50 episodes and each episode is one-hour long. Nowadays, the length is a bit shorter (around 24 episodes).

Korean Historical Drama also begin to sweep across the world, so most of them have English subtitles, making everyone who doesn't speak Korean be able to enjoy the drama as well.

@anonymous: Why does it sounds like the story of Chinese drama "Wind and Cloud"? Are you sure it's Korean? It was a drama back in 2003-2004. I don't know if this helps.

Actually I'm not sure if it counts as a historical drama, but have you seen "Faith"? It's kind of a mix of historic, science fiction and fantasy. Though I really recommend it.

well, korean dramas have changed the way I look at tv series and like maybe millions of people i have felt an irressistible urge to find out and enjoy mre. I have watched dong Yi, wind of the palace, jewel of the palace, tree with deep roots and yesterday i finished watching painter of the wind. I just cannot these people have written such beautiful scenarios, created such strong characters and plots.so far i can say i have never seen any other drama writers have been good at creating such an intense atmosphere as "painter of the wind." All of the series I mentioned are just pure great and in my opinion wind of the palace should be watched and discussed by every politician. These series deal with moral decisions, bearing responsibility for such decisions, improving your personality just by carrying your responsibilities. For instance Dong Yi is such an incredibly good and moral person, I am sure she has affected a lot of people. I for sure admired her character and decisions and her moral insistence upon being good and not choosing bad. Interesteingly enough, most of the series I've watched so far belong to the same scriptwiriter or director. So I cannot refer to other series.Today, I am trying to choose another good series, I thinnk I will choose another series done by the same director of Yi San .

Hi, seeing that you are very into historical drama's perhaps you could help me out.

I once was browsing youtube movies and came across a fragment of a korean drama and since a while now I've been trying to find that drama without success because I forgot the name and I can't seem to find the video with the fragment either.

It was a scene where a man was being transported by foot while being held captive. Then for some reason I vaguely remember he wen't berserk and breaks loose. He then eliminates the ca. 20 soldiers around him with his martial arts. There was also a moment during the fight where he pulls some guy through some planks on a bridge. The action looked really spectacular, perhaps this scene sounds familiar to you and you can help me out. thank you in advance
