The Ten Best Movie Crowns
The Top Ten Movie Crowns
Movie crowns are usually opulent, grand and very beautiful. They, like all parts of a costume reveal much about the character who is wearing it.
A crown by definition is a circular headdress wore by monarchs as symbol of authority. For this page, I'm using a slight looser definition and this page will only look at crowns wore by female characters.
The crowns were ranked by beauty, how well the fit the character/movie and memorability.

Elizabeth's played by Cate Blanchett, crown is a near accurate remake of the crown that is depicted in Elizabeth's coronation portrait.
It has large gemstones around the edge and curved casted arches that meet at a cross. It has a large pearl that hangs on the forehead. It's very regal.
Designed by Alexandra Byrne
Used in the promotion for Black Swan, Nina Sayer, played by Natalie Portman, wears a dark silver crown that is chaotically organic. It is made from burnt copper and it's lightweight. It's very beautiful but it's also edgy and there is something unhinged which fits the transformed Nina.
Designed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy
Satine, played by Nicole Kidman, wears a crown at the end of Moulin Rouge during the wedding portion of the play.
It’s an Indian inspired crown. It’s made from brass, faux pearls, diamantes, silver thread embroidery, sequins, beads and silver pearling (coils). It has two stands that go across the forehead. On the each side there is a piece that is shaped like leaves. These were made with embroidered and beaded mesh. It’s vert pretty and has very delicate feel to much like Satine.

The Young Victoria
Much like the crown from Elizabeth the crown for the coronation scene in the The Young Victoria is a near replica of the one that Queen Victoria wore.
It a very ostentatious. It has diamonds all over it. A row of pearls, large gemstone and ermine trim. It very over the top and royal.

One Night with the King
Esther's, played by Tiffany Dupont, crown when she is crowned queen has a mixed of ancient Persian and Indian glamor.
The crown has a floral pattern that goes around the rim. The arches seem to have an repousse detail. Repousse is a hammering technique where designs are hammered out from the back. Red jewels adorn the points. There is also tikka that hangs off the crown on to her forehead. While the veil isn't part of the crown the pairing is a nice touch.

Mei, played by Ziyi Zhang, wear a bright golden crown. It has an engraved pattern on it. On the front on it there is a sun like piece with a blue gemstone on it and a flower right above it and to the sides. There are also chandelier like component that hang off of it they also has little red bead on them. There is a delicateness to this crown but a strength and the suits Mei’s character very well.

Lucilla from Gladiator
When Lucilla, played by Connie Nielsen, is watching the arena she wear this ornate tiara. It has small gemstones all over and larger one as focal points and medium size one on the sides. This tiara has a grace but there is also a power in it that makes it perfect for Lucilla.

Ravenna from Snow White and the Huntsman
Queen Ravenna's, Charlize Theron, crown has a very Romanesque feel. It has very hard, strong, and opposing look to it. It's dark silver with alternating long short pointed peaks although the peaks don't go all the way around the crown. The rim has dark purple oval gemstone that are set on the horizontal. Clearly is this not a dainty crown, it a crown worn by a dark and powerful ruler with fits Ravenna perfectly.

The crown wore by Cleopatra, played by Elizabeth Taylor, in the 1963 version where she parades into Rome is iconic.
There are few movie crown as grand as this. This crown was designed after the crown that Isis wears while nursing Horus. It has feather details and it's accented with blue gems. At the forehead is the cobra and vulture with are royal symbols. At the top has a circle of cobras and from there a symbol that that is a mix of both Isis and Hesat (celestial cow-goddess) symbols. This crown is a show-stopper with it's over-the-top extravagance and opulence but that suited both Cleopatra and Elizabeth Taylor perfectly.

Arwen Undomeil from The Lord of the Ring; Return of the King
Arwen's, played by Liv Tyler, crown is made to look like a butterfly representing the spring. The crown has a very organic look which fits into the overall style of the elves. It's bright silver and has lots of dangling chains that has dozen of green and silver beads on them. On the sides there is a green detail looks like it could be enamel but it's nail polish. the crown is made in two part the front part has a delicate look but the back is a lot bolder. It's a truly lovely crown that has a lot going on but it works and it pulls off the delicate yet strong look exceptionally well.
